Anybody know the tire coverage for the OE fender flares, 17 PW?

Just got ceramic coating, so looking for better coverage for the 37” tires…

Have a brand new set of bushwhacker max flares, but too wide for my taste…make me an offer

Thanks!

The stock fender flares really dont have any coverage to speak of. They are basically just cosmetic and prevent stone chips right in the immediate area.

37x12.5 KM3s on 18x9 wheels +18

Just trying to figure out which flares to order to have descent coverage… the max flares are a bit too wide and look dumb… the oe flares don’t seem to be flush so tough to measure without taking them off… so was hoping someone here may know. Olyelr states they basically don’t cover much, so are they 1/2 coverage or ?

I had mudflaps, but the tires rubbed pretty good, so they would get ripped off easily.

On my 16 1500 which should be the same width anyway they are at least ¾" at lowest and 1¼ towards front. Hope this gives you an idea.

My whole point, in general, is flares dont really do **** anyway except for aesthetics. I had 3+” bushwacker flares on a 2000 dodge….they didnt do ****. Your still gonna get dirt all down the side of your truck. Your still gonna get rock chips all down the side of your truck.

What are you after, besides looks/aesthetics?

IIRC, the OE flare extended about .5-.75 in. from body. Could go with the factory so-called off road flares. They extend from body approx 2.5 in, but they're not cheap either (IMO). Of course the factory HD mud flaps will not fit the factory off road flares. Went with Durflap. Tires still sling stuff up on side, even with flaps. Not nearly as bad without flaps. Duraflap has a 14 in length flap, but that would nearly be a couple of inches from the ground. THey also have wide widths.

Of course if you're running wheel at 0 or neg offset, then no amount of flares or flaps is going to keep tires from slinging muck all over everything.

Just trying to help protect the truck after a fresh ceramic coating and paint correction….stock flares don’t do much…a bit wider flares would help somewhat I would think….

They stick out more then stock so they do something and they stop rock chips all around on the corner of the wheel wheels, softer material vs a steel fender.
But yeah i still get a ton on the doors and what not

Yea thats what im getting at…they cover the majority of the metal where it really counts as far as stone chips…so good in that sense. But they dont stop dirt and debris from getting on the sides of the truck….at all. And in my past experience, the big wide flares dont do **** for that either.

Also, the flares will eat through the clearcoat where they touch the sides of the body. They also trap all sorts of **** behind them…which in a winter/salty environment is bad bad bad.

Billy Goat you are absolutely right. The flares are not there to stop the mud or rocks. They would need to be closer to the ground to do that.
That is what full size mud flaps like our drill-less are for.
The attached photo are the drill-less custom centered to the offset wheels and tires.
Then a set of our stock 12" wide.

I have a Laramie with OEM flares from factory. They only stick out about 3/4". They keep the edge of the wheel well from getting chipped. I also have Weathertec no drill flaps front and rear as well as as set on the front of the rear wheel well. Even with all that you still get stuff going past onto the sides.

I had 37" tires on with the factory flares and after I installed Bushwacker flares. The Bushwacker's add about 1-1/2 extra coverage, I believe. The main benefit is it stopped mud from covering my side mirrors. It was well worth it just for that. I really don't care about rock protection. My truck is 360 degrees of scratches. Ain't no fender flare gonna stop the tress from reaching out and grabbing you:D

Old pic; not so pretty anymore.
