curious if any one has tried this with any good results before

im thinking if its actualy as warm as it says its gonna be this week end
im gonna pull stock muffler sections out of my truck and try to hollow it out
either by punching it out or by cutting out the top half of the muffler and removing the internals and welding it back shut

what do you think this will sound like

It sounds like a lot of time/hassle, for possibly very little return. If you already have the cutting/welding skills, buy a $75 muffler to weld in place of it.

Yeah a buddy of mine did that and it sounded awful, it added this "tin can" sound to it and a weird drone. Needless to say a couple days later he had a magnaflow installed.

If you are going to take everything out of it just leave it intact and replace with straight pipe.
Since you can weld you should be able to do it cheap.

Yeah straight pipe would be the way to go.

I had a generic truck muffler installed with all the pipe behing the muffler replaced for 175.00 from a local shop and it sounded good. It would probably sound raspy if you gutted it.

I paid $120 for a Flowmaster Super 40 and the adapters to install it. I like it. The stock duals slipped out and the super 40 slipped in perfect.

I wouldn't recommend it. I've never done what you're saying but we have customers who have used the factory resonator as a muffler and...well...they called us. LOL!

I went to a custom exhaust shop by me for my 2014 last week. They installed a flowmaster and made a front pipe for it. It cost $275 total and sounds great. I was going to do it myself but you need 3 people to lock it down and make sure tips look spot on. Plus it's welded now no clamps.

My buddy replaced his stock muffler with a magnaflow y and a piece of pipe, sounds awsome but it does have a good pit of drone at highway speeds.
