Just got a brush guard cheap. It has a couple light mount holes on the bottom of a crossbar. The chrome is peeling around the hole and the metal underneath has a nice layer of rust. It's not visible when standing, so I'm not too worried about an ugly fix. Do I treat it like painted metal or are there special considerations for chrome?

Honestly nothing you can do with chrome except strip it and paint it or have it re-chromed. It's actually a metal plating not a coating so you will only ever slow down the flaking if that. Corrosion getting under the plating is generally the cause.

My chrome oem running boards had the same issue. I ground off the blisters, sanded off the rest, and sprayed them black with bed liner stuff. Look good and I preythe black over chrome anyway
