So, I recently installed some Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow 10's under the seat in my '14 RAM. I have had Rockford subs (T1 12's) in the past, and I thought they were pretty solid. These things however, are some of the worst sounding subs I think I have ever heard. I thought it was the LOC at first, so I picked up an AudioControl LC2i to help with the bass roll-off. It solved that problem, but man oh man do these things suck. Being somewhat of an audiophile, I immediately packed them back in the boxes and threw them up on Craigslist. Now, the point of my post lol, anyone have any experience with Polk db1040s? The reviews look great and they are fairly cheap right now ($60 on Amazon), so it looks like a steal. Any other sub recommendations are certainly welcome. I would love to go back to the Boston Acoustic G3 10's that I had in my previous vehicle, but I just can't find any. I am not looking to impress the neighborhood teens, just looking for SQ. The days of beating down the block are far behind me. I just noticed that Amazon has the Image Dynamic CTX104 for $129 with Prime Shipping. I see a lot of posts about ID, but I have never heard any. I am guessing the CTX is more of their entry level sub. Also, the ID10D2 version 3 is only $139 with Prime Shipping. Thanks for the help!

I've never heard the entry level ID subs, but the ID Max's are certainly beasts (having heard them).

Alpine Type-R shallow subs are a bit out of my price range at the moment, and will probably be too much bass. I really don't want to throw a lot of money into subs. My wife is unhappy enough as it is about buying the truck lol.

The box is just a typical sealed under the seat box that I picked up at a local shop. 0.61ft^3 per side. Mounting depth is 6 3/4inch.

I use 2 10 inch DC SoundLab Level 2 Subs. Check out DC SoundLab, they have up to 6 level (if I remember correctly) and are solid subs! If you become a forum member at CarAudioClassifiedOnline (CACO) you can speak to a dealer who hooks up pretty good prices. They are fast and made to order. I don't work for them, I just own some and love the sound they produce!

Rockford Fosgate R500X1D. It's what I picked up with the P3 10's.

Getting the signal for the LC2i at the front doors.

I went with Kenwood KFC-XW1200F. I have one and it sounds great. Definitely does not sound like a shallow sub. And it was $104 on ebay. Crutchfield has them for $200 but that's a no brainer. So 2 10's would pound.

Xonzo you have a PM and depends on the shallow mount and type of box. I have two that have made people wonder how I get so loud in a regular cab truck.

It should also be noted that a local audio shop is willing to sell me a pair of JL Audio 10w1v2 for just $100 a sub. I have never heard 10w1's, but I have personally owned a 10w6 and it beat my brains in.

JL W6 is one of the best sounding subs for the money. If you want to save some $$$ you can look into Kicker as they have some very nice options that won't break the bank.

If you need shallow and have some spare budget look at Illusion Audio. Their C10 or C12 is a full size sub with an inverted motor structure so they mount shallow but perform like a traditional sub. Plus they're some of the best subs on the market, period. Their XL line is taking the SQ world over.

@ Low2HighRise To say "they sound flat," is like saying 4 door sedans are slow. Unless you have heard all of them that is just bad advise.

Everyone's beloved JL W3 and W6 would sound flat not given the proper space.

He only has .61 cu of airspace to work with hence the need for a shallow. The kenwoods require per spec .8 Doing 2 10's with poly fill would give him the lows he's looking for.

I didn't care for shallows until I heard my buddies Lamborghini Gallardo. They are clean, deep, and look nice to.

Polk MM1040's are shallow and sound really good, pretty forgiving on box design too. I have heard Image Dynamics iDQ 10's sound really good in little air space and handle good power doing it as well. Another option for shallow might be the NVX. I have not personally heard these, but the specs look really good. A little more pricey though....
