Started my truck this morning in the garage, got a sulfur smell (rotten egg). It quickly went away. I know that many would quickly suggest the catalytic converter, but didn’t receive any vehicle message and everything seems to be in order. Would’ve expected a message if were catalytic related.

If it were the catalytic converter, would the smell me constant and other tell tale things I should be looking for?

Maybe something got trapped in the events when the vents closed at last shutdown?

Thanks!

That smell could be indicative of an electrical burning. Might have blown a fuse before it caught fire.

Wouldn’t I get an indication of some sort on my dash from a blown fuse?

Catalytic coverters will smell like that temporarily if its been driven hard recently. For instance if you pulled a trailer up a long hill and then pulled over right after. No CEL or codes?

There would absolutely be no indication of a blown fuse on the dash.
The only indication of a blown fuse is that something electrical would not function / operate at all when switched on.
Or you might have a burnt fuselage link.
Open up the fuse box under the hood and look for a blown fuse

Nope no indication whatsoever. No hard driving. Wonder if the close confines of being in a garage, or smell trapped in the vents was just the issue.

Also assuming if it was the cat, there’d be a check engine light too - right?

There is a chance you may not see a CEL for any issue you might have. Plenty of times if had something fail with zero indication.

Not always, it will only pop a CEL for a cat if the PCM detects the efficiency is below a specific threshold. It can stink like that and still work well enough not to pop the CEL...
