Ill be installing some lights soon and would like to have a single on-off-on switch where the first circuit would just turn the lights on and off
The second circuit would allow the lights to be turned on with the high beams

Basically on, off or on with high beams

Am I right in thinking that I would need a double pole triple throw switch to accomplish this? Does the off position even count as a throw? I'm finding some dpdt switches that are on off on

I might just have to install two separate switches with diodes or even worse, a single on of switch lol

if the second on was connected through a relay (relay tripped by turning on the high beams) the lights would only work when high beams turned on.

That's how my brother has his wired
It's a 32" led light bar so I don't want it to always come on with the high beams, like on highways

I ordered a DPDT switch that's supposed to be on-off-on, for $1.80 shipped we'll see if it's what I want

using the on-off-on switch, first ON is when you want just them on, second ON is wired through the relay that is switched on by the high beam signal..

Throws on switches has always confused me, I guess its to trivial to cover in the electrical engineering class I had to take
I can see why OFF wouldn't count as an actual switch throw though I guess

My plan was the first ON to be in series from +12v to the relay with the second ON being wired in series between an add-a-fuse on the high beams and the same relay
I don't think I'll need a diode since they're different switch poles so they should be separate circuits but I'm going to put in an indicator LED to act as one just incase

Get a dpdt center off switch. Wire the switch as if it were 2 different switches. Be sure to use 2 different relays for each side.
