Hi everyone, I'm getting a great deal on a used leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls for just $50. Since my truck is a 2014 Tradesman 1500 QC, I'd like to have these features.

I was ready to pull the trigger until I noticed the right front keypad doesn't come with "Gear +" and "Gear - " keys my truck comes with. I suspect this steering wheel came from a Ram with the 6 spd auto while mine has the 8 spd. So here's the question:

Can I just switch that keypad with the one found on my steering wheel and retain the Gear selection feature?

I'm attaching the picture of the steering wheel I'm interested for.

Yes you can change the switch. I changed mine from gear +/- to plain on my 3500 because they didn’t do anything. I can’t remember but I think the switch is screwed to the rear plastic cover of the steering wheel.

Thanks, I'll order it and let you know how it went. The price is just too good

The steering wheel is from an older truck? What year is it from? It looks like you’re missing buttons from the other side a well.

When receiving it I noted it was built on Dec 2011. Yea it's missing the Uconnect buttons, but since I have an aftermarket headunit I don't mind not having those.

I'll do that within the week. Since my truck has a JVC touchscreen with AA and Carplay, I'm not concerned about the missing Uconnect keys on front. I'll retain the audio controls on the back by wiring an Axxess AWSC-1 interface to the radio's harness.
Thanks for the feedback.

All,
I finally upgraded my steering wheel and now I have leather plus audio controls. They work great on my JVC headunit when plugging a Metra ASWC-1 to the Metra CHRC-01 aftermarket wiring harness I already had installed for the headunit. It's almost plug and play (I had to splice a wire from a 12V power outlet since the headunit's harness wasn't powering the ASWC-1 harness).

Thanks everyone for the great support0f9fc8f75894d436b8162b0ee8e387d5.jpgb5432dd63194a9f90a048a2b604857de.jpg

Curious if i could use different year steering wheel. I have a 2012 but most are labeled 2013 plus.

You should be able to swap without issues. The 2012 steering wheel I purchased looked the same as my 2014 steering wheel and it was plug and play.
The plugs are the same and all.
The 2009-2011 steering wheels are a no-go, though.
