Generally speaking the shorter the swing between winter rating and weight the more stable the oils viscosity will be. However, the fact that 5w20 is more stable then 5w30 doesn't mean it protects better at anytime throughout an interval. Because for the most part the 5w30 will still likely be higher in viscosity and film strength even at the end of that interval. Oils mix no problem, I would mix that 5w20 instead of using it personally, and then just buy 5w30 from now on.

Just for grins I opted to review both Royal Purple oils (5w20 and 5w30) in my garage. Both say they meet the Chrysler MS 6395 (??) specification. As such, I assume I can use either.

2015 Ram 1500 SLT QC 5.7L 2WD, 129680 on the odo. She had 28680 when I got her in Sept. of 2017.

Have been using PP 5w-20 + Fram XG10060 almost exclusively, oil changes by OCI. Also, 15 oz. Lubegard biotek last 2 changes.

Oil pressure normally runs at 50 - 51 psi according to EVIC when cruising. At hot idle, pressure is sometimes as low as 33 psi, usually 36 - 38 psi.

Just finished changing my oil using 5qts. PP 5w-30 high mileage and 2 qts. PP 5w-20 high mileage with Fram XG10060. No Lubegard Biotek this time as I forgot to order it and I was at the end of the OCI.

Oil pressure cruising was ~54 psi, and ~42 psi at hot idle. Will see how pressures change as mileage on this oil progresses.

Was wanting to give Redline a go, but the $80 - $100 price steered me away. I am wanting to give it a shot, so maybe the next change after I pay more attention to how the present oil behaves for comparison.

Based on the new (new to me) truck's history, I've seen that the previous owner use Mopar 5W20. There receipts for all. The dealer over here uses 5W30 & 5W20 Mopar whenever it suits them and sells us Mopar 5W20 if we are doing the oil change ourselves.
Based on my experience with my old truck, that is basically an issue; considering the climate I'm in.
Having done a complete fluid change and using Redline 5W30, the truck sounds so much more better an basically that is way to go for me. Nothing else but Redline from here on.
If I can't get Redline, I would experiment with Amsoil 5W30. I had used Motul 300V 5W40 at one point and that was good. But it was pretty expensive - a lot more than Redline. I was actually surprised.

Anyone ever heard of Hotshots Secret?
I just saw an episode of Stacey David's Gearz on this company.

WhatsApp Image 2022-02-28 at 9.48.55 AM.jpegI just dropped off the truck at the mechanic's shop to do the oil change. He ordered the oil and this showed up.. Is this right?
The can states "Euro Series". Is that OK?
The reason I ask is because when you look up Redline 5W30, quite a number of images of show up.
The Redline website shows this..

I believe it has less moly, but that is still similar to redline 5w30 high performance series. May or may not be a tick killer, but I'd use it and see. Average moly level is 60ppm, this has 120ppm last I checked. Well over what it takes to lower the coefficient of friction. Moly over 200ppm would only be a 10-20% less coefficient of friction over something like this if you believe the white paper on it.

I decided not to use the "Euro Series" oil and just return it to the dealer. Another dealer had the correct oil and so we just got that.

That guy doesnt even understand what a winter rating means versus viscosity, with respect brother. I still agree with using 5w30, but that was some bad info.

@Burla I was scrolling by and that video was posted on a HEMI forum for Hellcats.. LOL.
I'm going to remove the video.. no need for bad info here. Someone might actually take it seriously. LOL

Just curious if anyone has tried this...

Is Stiction an actual thing and does it effect the Hemi engines?
That green color gives it away, I would expect lubegard biotech > Stiction Elliminator. Here is your voa, decent moly I guess, low viscosity... Not real impressive imo, but also not dangerous or stupid like other additives. The base oil is basic garbage, even group 1, but the active molecule is the moly. There are better ways to get moly then this imo.

For a diesel, might have some benefit I am missing. If your diesel is having a stiction issue. For a hemi, spend the money on biotech,.

Stiction? Thought that only applied to HEUI diesel engine injector actuator valves? Oh, and machine tool table ways. That I know requires stiction additives from the Mobil Oil field service days.

For a modern HPCR diesel engine? Nothing to stick. It's all electronic.

Basically it is a Moly treatment, just not as much as we are used to. So moly helps diesel stiction as well it appears.
