You can plot the iron of my 8 UOA's on a chart and easily pick out the 2 times I ran 5w-20. Not in terms of "absolute wear", but in terms of "relative wear"; ie, the iron before and after those 2 times are less.
Makes perfect sense, these Hemis love to run hot. So naturally, they spec 20wt oil lol

When I pulled my camper up the Ike Gauntlet in 2018, the oil temp got to 255⁰ and stayed around there for a good 10-15 mins. I was running RL 5w30 and the UOA was very low in wear metals. I have to imagine if I was running the 5w20 conventional oil it calls for, that UOA would've been very different...

They're not fine either. The hybrid has enough power to get you off the road when your bearings leave the chat, so that's why it's non included in the recall, its not a safety issue (to them).

So yeah. I bet hybrid owners love it that they're getting no support from toyota, one day you're pulling your trailer for vacation and its game over.

Anyone watch sonoma race? Larsen wins again that dude is a straight killer, but the coolest thing yesterday was watching how truex made it to the finish line. After 350 miles truex ran out of gas 30 ft from finish line, dude uses his starter motor to finish, lol? Put it in gear and kept hitting ignition til he made 30 ft, and the crowd cheers, lol.

255 is kinda concerning, the hemis do run hot, but I suspect some/most of that is just how they're programmed? Ever since doing the AGS delete and running a 180 tstat my temps have been much better. I now tow at less or the same temps I used to run unloaded.

My guess is if I towed up the ike my temps would exceed 250 too, even with the 180 tstat, but it seems to give me a much greater buffer; it takes way longer to hit high temps and then it cools down quicker after the climb.

I was looking into oil coolers before but after that change I can't be bothered as where I tow these days I never spike past 230 and normally I run about 220.

The other thing to look at is lead. The only lead in an engine is typically the maimn and conn rod beraings. So, lead means bearing wear. Iron is typically the cylinder walls, and/or rings.

Just checked, I only see lead show up once, my latest report (which was a 20 grade) but only at 1 ppm which is basically within the margin of error? All the other UOA's are 0 lead, nice!

We were talking about that the other day, sorry machining debris? I'm not buying that. Those engines are made in the USA, I just cant believe they would leave widespread debris in new engines. Scapegoat.
If you are expecting Toyota to admit that they made an inferior product or a mistake, forget it. This is a company known worldwide to find a way to blame the user for legitimate warranty claims, because they know it will bring down their rep for reliability.
That rep is the only reason that they are selling vehicles.

I wonder if he's a member on BITOG. LOL.
Hes not. Most of BITOG hates him and they make the attacks personal on him and literally make it about his looks and personality. I know rdy4war is a personal friend of his and lakespeed jr even replied to someone on his youtube video saying "the BITOG crowd loves to hate me"

Castrol tore his engine down and analyzed every part. Its on youtube interesting stuff. He ran castrol GTX at 3k mile intervals. I forget how many times the motor was rebuilt
best commercial for gtx ever. In 1966 those engines were pretty simple as well, let that oil do its job.

Whats cool is they analyzed the metallurgy of the pistons and found the calcium had penetrated the metal parts in the engine. Its a cool watch for sure i watched it around 3-4 years ago

That makes me appreciate his videos even more.
Amen to that! They all complain about his looks and how he talks and his energy and then say well hes just promoting his own oil. (He doesnt even have his own oil as he left driven) For a while it was omg he does videos about pennzoil so hes being paid but in reality some of his viewers asked why some pennzoil VOAs showed less than 600ppm phosphorus so he did multiple pennzoil videos. i believe hes doing a video on botique oils next i cant wait for that

I'm guessing he got in trouble with that crowd when he decided to do a video on their "pope of motor oil" - Mobil 1 0w40. LOL

The $37 oil change is done on the Rogue. Whatever oil the dealer I bought it from threw in it made it rattle on cold starts but on SS 0w20 it was whisper quiet. So we'll see how this Valvoline R&R does.

I swear if I have another motor that's finicky about oil....
