Those Nissan 2.5 Liter 4-cylinder engines are 200 dollars all day long at a salvage yard. I just replaced one in a 2015 Sentra in May. The consensus I got form the various connections of mine is that these engines seldom fail, even with less than stellar maintenance. My connections all told me that the CVT transaxles were/are where the money is due to their early demise.

Yeah i got lucky with the cvt in mine, it had actually been serviced before I got it and It runs smooth as silk.

After I got it I did a pan drop/filter change/cleaned the magnets, fluid looked great. Slightly dark but translucent.

Then I ran it for a week, dropped the pan again and checked/cleaned the magnets again which had very little on them.

Going to do an annual drain/fill to keep fresh fluid in it. I've seen posts on FB groups with Rogues with 250k miles on them when the cvt is serviced regularly. I really think half of the bad rep Nissans cvt get is because there is no service interval for them. You're supposed to look at a PID with a scan tool to see if the TCM has deemed the fluid "in need of being changed". Most people don't change their trans fluid when there IS a schedule nevermind when there isn't one...

Mine didn’t either. I did my Camaro over the summer even though it was a new engine I went through all of the fluids and put fresh everything. I need to swap out the coolant in my Flex. It is almost 5 years old but doesn’t have very miles on it. I am right at 27k now.

I came across this.. translating the comments, it doesn't look at great. It is the SM formula though and might have been updated.

The one plus about a CVT (and why they were brought back to be used in current cars) is that a CVT reduces/ eliminates LSPI in modern engines.

Changing the fluid is but one step to keeping the transmission alive. Driving the car like a blue-haired grandmother and never hauling/towing loads are 2 other major enhancements to a long life, specifically germane to the CVT!

Well that's good to know, I drive it like a grandpa to and from work so that combined with frequent fluid changes should give me a good service life out of it. Just hit 99k this morning

I've heard this phrase all my life. Don't quite know what it really means because my grandpa is 94 years old and still rides his motorcycle at 80 mph.

Mine was in his early 80's when driving wasn't exciting enough for him and fell asleep driving up the road to his own house. He hit two parked cars.

Luckily he wasn't moving very fast but still managed to do a lot of damage. There were a lot of kids in the neighborhood so it could have been a lot worse.

That was the last time he drove. We had to tell him the cops took his license away.

Same with my mom. She wouldn't listen to me, of course, and her doctor wouldn't do it.
Again, lucky she didn't injure or kill someone or become an invalid.
The property damage was bad enough.

My wife’s grandmother is 87 and had a stroke earlier this year. We had to do the same thing. She lost vision in her left eye. Enough it throws her off. She is also almost wheel chair bond as well. I think she attempted once against doctors orders and that was enough for her. It is always sad to see them get to that point. My grand parents are about to be 84 and they are still both driving. They don’t go as much as they used to. He sold the motor home. They will come up to my house sometimes and visit. We usually go there.

New Kia Tasman with either turbo gas or diesel and seeing how the USA can get enough gas powered trucks wait for it, not to be sold in USA. Is it just me or do corporations literally have something against us? Used to be US markets where you would want to be with an item like this? I certainly would rather have this then any ev or hybrid truck.
