So I received the 2 gallons of RL 0w30 that I ordered from Amazon (at the very good sale price...thanks Burla for the heads up!), and the label says SN, not SP. Is my understanding correct that this is the old formula then??

What do you mean? Are you referring to the hemi tick? Because I still get that at cold start. I’ve heard it’s nothing to be concerned of but it actually really bothers me.

Sure hope Red Line will at least mark their containers correctly when the new formula hits them, seeing as they won't be with their published data sheets.

This begs the question: why should anyone spend top-dollar on a product that's a "guess in a bottle" at best?

I mean startup clatter, cold tick, and hot tick. All of the above.

Amen! I spoke to a fuel distributer and she told me when they go to the fuel hub they pay for for BP gas and they have to buy BP gas as BP comes and runs samples to make sure they are selling BP gasoline. Same with mobil and shell.

My wife worked for years at HEB Gas Station and she knew the company that came out and cleaned the tanks and the filters, etc. There was literally only 2 stations in town doing regular MX on tanks and pumps, so those are the only 2 places I get fuel. One is a Shell Station, the other HEB, and they R running Shell for fuel, just rebranded. But I also know where the end of the line pumps/tanks are and as said: They all get the "same" refined gas, it is the additives that each particular company puts in.

PEA (Polyetheramine) is a great additive, but it is not concentrated enough to do harm if you add a small bottle to a 26 gallon tank. I use it regularly in the form of BG's 44K. It's like one of those little bottles on steroids, so I use it maybe twice a year. It DOES make a difference.

Automotive Test Solutions out of Albuquerque, Mew Mexico had a VERY effective fuel additive. That stuff does miracles! I use it on recalcitrant GDI engines which customers neglect for fuel system maintenance, and WOW what a difference it makes.... but it's spendy.

I had terrible experience @ BITOG, I don't lend them much credence to much of anything.

I agree it happens, and I mentioned I experienced it before too. With that said there really are some outstanding posters on BITOG. Clinebarger, Trav, and Molecule are the best of the best. Clinebarger and Trav are expert mechanics, and Molacule is a chemist with a wealth of tribological information.

BITOG still is a source of great info. The trick is to find it while filtering out the BS, like over the top moderation, arrogant "gas bags" that run their mouth 24/7, and in this case highly biased love for their sponsors.

HPL surely makes a great product, but don't think for a moment its not shamelessly pumped at BITOG. It has supplanted Pennzoil's in their slobbering love fest. Still, there is always great info to be found, as long as the filtering process is in place.

There is a difference between "shamelessly slobbering" and "excitement over a killer product". Same reason Redline and RP filters are promoted so heavily on RF, it's an awesome product with impeccable specs that works.

Combine that with a vendor that is more transparent than any other, active on the forum answering questions, going out of their way to make product variations on user request, offering their lab and time to run tests with forum users etc etc.
