Recently we have wished we had kept our 2004.5 2500 Cummins HO CC. We had it 10 years and it looked like new when we traded it in on a new 2014 Laramie 1500. It had 110K on it when we traded.
Love my dads 04.5 ho cummins with 250k. Rust free never seen a winter. Came from oklahoma

Are you guys just doing the standard oil test or adding extras? I just sent it out with the standard $30 test.

I had an 89 stepside z71 also! Loved that truck, centerlines, 33 12.50s, 410 gears with detroit locker, Edelbrock mpfi/roller rockers/cam, headers, Damn i sunk a ton of cash in that, before marriage lol

Wife/girl friend at the time took this pick cause she says who the hell is under the hood of a truck new years day! I know i have more pics somewhere but it was before phones so id have to dig for them.

If you want to set an interval, you need tbn. Active base number.

Man, that puppy was just getting warmed up. That has to be one of the best trucks ever made. The weakest part of those trucks was the transmission, if by chance it was a manual, straight bullet proof drivetrain.

One or my buddies just picked up an 04.5 with 6 speed. Not sure if g56 or nv5600 though

No I haven't. I have only used Fram Ultra XG 10060 small filter, same size as Royal Purple 10-48. RP 20-820 is the biggest canister you can get - it is wider and longer. On my 6.4, the current filter diameter is right next to the lower radiator hose. I don't see how the 20-820 would fit well.

So instead, I'm going with the RP 20-500, which has the same original diameter, but is much longer. There is quite a bit of room for a longer filter, but not a wider filter.
Hey Hemiman,
I have found that the 20-820 will fit my 2014, but the coaxing and twisting can dislodge crap that might fall into the open hole on the filter. You just mentioned the 20-500 filter, stock width but longer (more media inside, I assume). Same flow characteristics, bypass pressures and the like? Seems to be a win, all things being equal.

Need help from all us oil brothers for a Kawasaki Z400 motorcycle.

Ok,

Lol. Ignore the fact that the manual listed 2 different engine oil capacities. But look at the oil spec requirements.

Where it is listing the API SG, SH, SJ, SL, or SM with JASO MA, ......

Is the “or” indicating that if it’s an “SM” then it needs the JASO certification or is it saying that all of those listed also need the JASO certification...?

This bike is a shared oil sump (engine and clutch)

thanks guys. I don’t really want to join another forum just for this machine so I was hoping to find some help here.

EDIT: Im assuming the jaso is needed as its a *** bike but still checking for clarificat

U & A,
I run Rotella 15w40 diesel oil in my Kawasaki ZRX1100 (watercooled 4 cyl). I don't worry about it being too thick in the cold weather because I don't ride in the cold weather.
YMMV

It was an auto and it did have a weird shifting quirkiness but once I loaded the base Bully Dog tune on it the trans started shifting normally. The tune was still loaded when we traded it in.

Yes, 20-500 has just slightly less media surface area than the 20-820. I wrote up a surface area comparison a while back. It's in the Oil Filter Thread.

Darwin took off for work today with the light on, 15 pounds of air pressure, 90 miles jez? All she had to do is ask, I can change a tire in 3 minutes.

My latest OBS truck was a 1995 Tahoe 6.5 TD that I run 15W40 AcDelco oil in

My other truck is a 1998 C3500 6.5TD crew cab with single rear wheels. Because it is only 2WD I have been able to limit the winter miles, but the rear wheel wells are starting to rust through. Frame looks real good. Not bad for 171K miles and 23 years.
