Okay, so I recently had my trans rebuilt and have driven it twice since. Both times there were issues with shifting.
The shop that done the trans also serviced my T case and all was well with the 4x4. Rear and front diff we’re all good and no need for serving (this is what the shop told me).
Now I pick up from shop and drive roughly 2 hours to the next city which they have another shop, the owner of both shops is stationed here. I take my truck there due to the shifting issue and checking for leaks. They look over and say trans is fine and that I have no 4x4. I’ve had zero issues with 4x4 ever, no engine lights for 4x4 and no issues using dial to turn on. Also the shop I just left from checked 4x4 and it was working perfectly. I also checked when pulling out of the original shop. Anyways it was left at that. I took the truck back in yesterday as trans was not shifting right at all and stalling. So I take to the owners shop and he calls me back and says that since he has th T case out when fixing tranny, he would take part the T case and see what’s wrong with it. My question is, would a shotty trans ruin the T case or do something to it? I know a T case can ruin the trans.

thanks.

So to follow this up, the shop didn’t look over what they were doing with the torque converter when rebuilding the trans and it crapped out. Shop replaced it. Told me a clutch had burnt out in my T case and gave me a couple options on it.
1. Replace the burnt clutch for $1000
2. Rebuild the T case for $1800.

I made the choice of replacing my clutch as I want to go to a 44-45 instead, and my shop charges me like almost half of this current shop.

Another question is does a clutch replacement in the T case cost $1000 or am I being ripped again?

Thanks.

Don't even bother having the clutch touched if you want to change to a BW44-45 transfer case. The clutch is just for the front wheel drive. There is a thread on this forum on how to do the 44/45 swap.

If your already committed to the clutch replacement, you want to PM @Brandon-w about his lock up switch for the BW44-44, makes the transfer case almost as good as the 44-45.

That’s what I’m
Thinking as this shop has been nothing but questionable through this whole ordeal with my trans blowing up. I didn’t have a choice at the time and now I’m stuck with this shop. They got 9100 out of me and my truck has only been driven twice since Dec 13th. Not very enjoyable.

This is up here in Canada for the same part. Well I’m going to take this up with the owner as he also told me he wasn’t going to be charging me that much for labour as they had to take the T case out anyways. BS! Thanks for letting me know the prices that I should be paying.

Oh yeah forgot your Canadian too! I'd look into Rocklands clutches. I Beleive they have a tutorial on how to install them. Pretty easy to do. Even un bolts and splits the t case still on the truck. And if you do any sort of off roading definately pick up one of my switches. It saves my bacon and clutches all the time.
