I have a Samsung tablet without data plan. When I connect it via USB, Android Auto tries to load an app on the tablet.
The manual talks about a phone with data plan. My tablet has no data plan so I don't understand what I'm going to get by connecting it via Android Auto. Will Android Auto even work with this device and if so, what will it give me?
All I want the tablet for is music and audio books. I don't use it for anything else in the truck.

can you run it off bluetooth instead? Dont know why you would need android auto unless you are streaming music in which case you'll need data anyway.

The above poster is correct that you could just connect through bluetooth and listen through the radio. To use Android Auto you need the app to connect with the cable. What you get is essentially the screen on the android device displayed on the radio screen and all the functionality of the touch screen.

I don't think you need a data plan to use it as my Pixel 3aXL is plugged into my 12" screen on my 19 Laramie and I use it mainly for Spotify. My songs are stored on my phone so I don't use/need any data while using the phone. I also don't think it will use the Uconnect (ATT) data plan on the truck unless you activate it through uconnect which I have not done.

Bottom line, you do need the app to control the tablet if it is plugged into the radio.

you have to download the Android Auto app on your phone / tablet to get it to work. It will not use data for an audiobook as long as your downloaded it prior to using it.
