Tachometer Red Line?

Not sure this is the correct place to ask this question, but here goes.

I note that the Tachometer on my 2013 RAM does not have a "Red Line" . Is this correct? Do we not need to know the "Danger Zone"? Especially when towing up mountain roads.

If this question seems like a dumb one, I am new to the RAM family.

my 17 with the 3.6 doesn't "show" one either. But it's 6500 in my wife's Challenger, I believe it is the same (assuming it's the 3.6).

Your tachometer is normal. If i recall correctly in late 2011-E2012 there were leaks of the prototype 7” cluster that looked far different than the ones in 2013+ trucks, with redline, etc.

For the most part the ECM/TCM will keep the engine from over-reving unless you force downshift too much headed down a mountain and let it get away from you.

And actually good question. I've had my truck (2014 5.7) since October and just this past week realized there was no redline on the tach.

Anything over 6200 and you're asking for trouble unless you have done some internal engine work. To be safe and for longevity, I'd stay under 6000.

I got hemifever trans tuning and raised shift pint to 6100/6200... Made a pretty big difference. The default rev limiter for the engine was set at 6800 in the pcm (engine) tune.

My 2010 has no red line either.
I set my rev limiter at stock+500 with my Flashpaq tuner.

Most trucks that I have seen have not had an indicated red line in decades. The first one I saw without one was in my parent 1997 F150. Not sure why it is a truck thing.

@Mike Townsend the diesel powered trucks have the redline marks on the tachometer. The EcoDiesel is 4500, the Cummins is 3500 and if I remember correctly the dashes will work in either if someone is looking at upgrading to a premium cluster.

If I had to guess why they stopped putting the redline marks on the gasser tachs, is it scares some people to run close to redline when towing. The engine needs to run up there for the torque and will hold together just fine.

Back in the day if my vehicle didn't have a tach I'd buy the Sun tach we use to get and I'd wind the engine until the valves floated and would set the red needle that came on them (you could set yourself) 100 RPM before that and that's where I would speed shift to the next gear.
