2013 3500 dually, I've got a right rear signal and brake light out. Taillight works and reverse light works. Did the usual, swapped bulbs and even swapped sockets. All work on the driver's side, I'm guessing I'm down to a broken wire somewhere along the chassis but upon further inspection between the trailer harnesses and the main harness it's quite a jumble of wires under there.

Is there any common place to check for a broken wire? I still have taillight, just no brake/signal so I'm assuming they are both on the same wire?

What color wire is for what? And would I be safe to just run another wire instead and tap into the back of the socket? Was thinking the easiest route was to the trailer harness but I'm thinking that's on a different circuit, I'd still like for the lights to work and the message in dash to go away as well LOL

That bulb socket in the image, looks like it got Hot at least once

Yeah, I noticed that as well. But I took the socket off and switched it to the driver's side and it works fine for all three functions (tail, stop, signal). And I tried the driver's side socket on the passenger side and again only 1 function (tail) worked.

One thing that you could try

Buy some Electrical Contact Cleaner, best brands are CRC & LPS & spray your trailer plug, even if you never use it.
They get corrosion & other crap between the contacts & can short out 2 or more contacts

Also buy a

wi2YFCCyQhMWM3t8mLwdZP9FK2sE9o3wPzj-NUhOQ&usqp=CAc.png
it tests trailer plugs

If i recall correctly, all the wiring runs down the drivers side to close to the drivers rear tail light & at that point a pigtail goes to light assembly unit.
The original wires continue to the trailer plug, while others bypass it & continue to the passenger side light.

You should be able to find out where your connection is broken with a multi meter or power probe of some type

Ok, thanks. I was hoping that's what the wiring did when it came down the side. I'll probably just go back to the pig tail and tap in there to run a new wire instead of having to run the full length of the truck to the front.

I routinely clean and grease all my trailer connections to keep them sensible. Between the in box 7 pin, bumper 7 pin and bumper 4 pin the cluster of wires back there gives me a headache to even look at LOL

I'm still unsure which color wire I'm looking to tap into at my socket? Is it orange stripe or green stripe? I guess I could verify which one works with a test light then it's obviously the other one.

Each striped wire will be power to a separate bulb filament. One for parking, the other for turn/brake. Use a test light to see which is which.
That orange one looks frayed but it might just be dirt.

It's dirt. The electrical tape is hiding a break in the wires, someone previous had tapped into both stripes wires. When I took them out there was 2 aftermarket taps and two wires attached blue and green inside a rubber loom but they were probably 6" long completely green inside and not actually attached to anything. I checked up under but can't find anything else they may have been attached too, I removed them and fixed the stock wires hoping that was the issue but it wasn't.
