Tailgate Question

I have a 2011 ram 1500 with back up camera and manual lockable tailgate. I just picked up a used 2013 tailgate as I have some damage to mine.

Apparently this 2013 tailgate it has the automatic locking tailgate feature and it wires in using the existing backup camera harness connection.

Does anyone know for certain if the 2013 tailgate wiring harness will plug and play into my 2011 harness receiver?

Essentially just wondering if I plug the harness in will my key fob lock/unlock the tailgate? Or are some wiring mods necessary?

You need the front harness. It runs from the tailgate all the way to the TIPM module under the hood. Your truck is not pre-wired and cannot just be plugged in.

Well it is wired right now (for my existing backup camera) but are you saying I’d need to replace the front harness with a 13+ one to take advantage of the auto lock?

I would look at the connector on the tailgate and see if they are the same. If so, change the TG and plug it in and see if the lock and camera works. If not, you will have to run 2 or 3 wires to make the lock work if the camera works.

Yeah I’m going to try that for sure. It’s just ridiculously cold out right now so was trying to do some up front research haha.
