Hi, I have a 2016 Ram 1500 LoneStar Edition with the 5.7L Hemi when I start the engine there is a tapping noise of one of the lifters I use Castrol oil high mileage 5w20 I have over 124 thousand miles on it this last oil change I put some Lucas oil treatment In and still tapping Is there any advice to To get rid of the noise It's driving me crazy.
Lucas oil treatment is viscosity 110, your 5w20 has a viscosity about 9, so you just made your oil in your engine thicker then gear oil for start up. That isn't gonna work, you need to get that out soon.
So what has worked on most rams at ram forum is heavy EP additives as opposed to viscosity. The two popular strategies is redline 5w30 paired with a royal purple filter 20-820 part number, or whatever oil you use and lubegard biotech and the same filter. Lubegard is very successful, just not as successful as redline. They have similar science, you do not want to bother to add either to what you did currently, that has to go, consider it a flush.
Here is the threads ram forum with poll results-
redline or
lubegard.
