Taser Audio/Video install?

Has anyone installed the taser audio video cable to screen mirror there phone for YouTube or what-have-you? From what I'm seeing you can simply take some RCA cables and use the 2 wires (+/-) for each RCA cable and using open pinouts on the back of the Uconnect 8.4, install an aux RCA that you could plug a video source into.
They made it seem as if you had to have the Taser setup in order for this to work, but I feel like after watching this video I could do this with stuff I have laying around the house and MAYBE alpha obd if taser is actually necessary.

You are right, you can DIY for much less...
