Hey guys newish to the 4th gen fam coming from a 2nd gen , live in Arizona and it’s started to get hot out here it’s 111 today , I own a 2017 Ram 5.7 with E fan convertion and a 180 tstat I feel like it’s running hot , looking at the digital cluster it ranges from 195 to 220-222 that’s just city driving and it’s beggining to worry me some I don’t see any leaks of any kind under the truck , when I have the AC in it runs around 215-222 and when I shut it off it goes to 206-215 what can i look at next ?? Thanks

When is the last time you have serviced the cooling system. Perhaps a flush and fill is in order.

Have you removed your active grill shutters?

Have you tested the thermostat?

If the Active Grill Shutters (AGS) are still in place, those temps are about normal ranges. You might have it happen since your in a fairly warm climate but there's a potential for an engine code because of the 180° t-stat, If the ECM does see the engine temp raise fast enough or get hot enough a CEL can happen.

I am in phoenix and those numbers look normal compared to my 21. Oil pressure looks a bit low bit probably normal mine is always around 52 53psi at those speeds

This is from today , no CEL , does have AGS , did install a 180 tstat last week , no codes have been thrown and does have an E fan conversion and it does turn on and stays on constantly, coolant seems good doesn’t have any leaks and oil seems to look fine , does have headers

For living in southern AZ I would use the lowest temp thermostat around.
You could add an after market fan. You can improve the shroud around your exiting fan.

180 t stat is as low as you can go with OEM software, but he does have shutters and that has zero purpose but to make your life suck in his neck of the woods, get that garbage off your truck. What is your coolant/water ratio or %? Running something like RMI 25 will clean any slime and allow you a lower % of coolant and still keep rust protection. Or you can try water wetter as well. I'd just start doing one thing at a time and see what helps, I'd say city driving at 111f, 222 doesn't seam to be out of what one would expect. You need air on the rad to get that down, it is what it is. What is the temp on highway runs?

Start with the simple stuff,like checking the thermostat.Just cause it's new or relatively new,doesn't mean it's any good.It's pretty common to have new t-stats bad right from get go,or go bad a few months down the road these days. Throw it in a pot of water on the stove,and use a meat thermometer to monitor the temp it opens at,while you bring the water up to temp.

222 degrees sounds a bit high to me. It was 108 degrees here in Vegas today and my temps, with A/C on, were steady 195-200. Running a 203 degree thermostat.

My 2014 runs a 210 never any higher Im oem specs with clutch fan yours does look a bit high possible your fan is coming on to late?or possible wrong Efan?

Phoenix here also. Another vote to Dump the shutters.. my top temp today was 203°

Gah, you must have 3.55 rear I dream about being at 2k rpm at 85 lol…

FWIW My truck runs hotter on the highway at speed with the rpms up than in does traffic

Those numbers are totally normal with AGS still active. My truck bone stock ran 220-233ish.

Now have AGS delete, 180* Tstat, stock cooling fan and my truck runs about 200ish in the hottest months with the AC on.

Nothing to worry about with your temps. But if you want it cooler I can't blame you there. Wildone actually pointed me to a guy on FB that sells an AGS delete kit. I've had it in my truck for years and never had an issue.

I would ask why mess witch grill removal and all to modify motor???? You can remove radiator to grill cover and just reach down with regular screw driver and pop lose the rectangular bracket that ties the shutters to the motor arm. Then carefully use regular screw driver to pop out the shutters leaving the top and bottom in place.

I only removed the lower 2 rows in my upper section... The setup is basically in quadrants with 3 louvers per section so I took out the bottom 2 in both upper sections leaving the top row and the bottom quadrants alone.

I have seen a 10-15*F drop across the board on all my temps. I still have a 203* t-stat but when I get on the highway in 90+ degree tamps I was seeing coolant jump to 215-220. My oil temps also ran in the 215-225 range, with trans temp just under 200.

Now I see coolant staying right around 203-206, oil staying down at 210-215, and tranny temps of 180-185.

I would strongly suggest this modification to anyone. It is easy, just need to pay attention and re-align everything. Short of removing the cover between grill and radiator support nothing else requires removal.

From what I have read the top row and bottom row are required in order to keep system working correctly.
