My 14 6.4L CEL is on with SETC error (heater intermittently works)...dealer just told me it needs a new thermostat but they are on backorder until March 22 (nearly 2 months)! Really Ram???

To the OP, the yellow trouble light /icon next to the red icon is for a faulty gas cap...I got the same message after installing a locking after mkt cap, reinstalled the oem cap and the light went out!

I'm having the same issue truck has been sitting at the dealer for 3 weeks and they're saying March 22nd at the earliest! It's a little hard to tow a horse trailer with the mini van rental they've put me in!

My dealer told me the same about the back order. Called my local mom and pop repair shop and they had mine the next day. This was 3 weeks ago. Had to buy housing also which meant $317 for a thermostat! 2016 6.4 with 46K.

2014 2500 6.4 first thermostat out about 75000 and back flushing heater core for more heat for cab. Now at 104000 heat can't get up to 160-170 normal temp replaces thermostat again heat worse 160 or less disconnected wire to thermostat housing now check engine light on and running at normal temp 210 so what controls the thermostat?

I know nothing of these new electronic t stats, but sounds like it has a built in failsafe to open at that temp, so begs to as the electronic part is to just let it open sooner under some conditions.

looking around it looks like the PCM controls the thermostat so I need to have the PCM flashed or it went bad strange goes out right after my power train warranty expires 103000's been chasing this problem for a while it only got cold out in the last month -20 to -30 so it a bigger problem now

update so I drove around a 1/2 day with the wire off the thermostat and normal temps then decided to reconnect wire to thermostat and working normal but still have check engine light still -20 to -30 outside

so it the next day and the check engine light cleared and running normal temps. Still have the problem when I stop at a light or stop sign it will cool off the heater core and blow cold/warm air when I pick up the RPM's or start to drive it gets hot again.

I'm still chasing this damn problem. And the local dealership is a joke. They actually fried 2 computers trying to work on my truck. I'm not buying anything from them nor even going there for air.

Sounds like sir in the coolant system to me. When I changed my thermostat I took the top house of the radiator and filled the radiator untill it started filling back into the reservoir. I also filled the hose as much as I could and never had any air in the system. I'm also taken that housing apart and it's just a regular thermostat. Nothing controls it but heat

It's a sensor. It's just a long shaft that sits in the coolant flow. Not sure if I saved that piece our not. Well have to look

OK. Update. Changed the thermostat assembly and it cleared almost every code I was getting. And the temp bottoming out problem.
