I would encourage you to drive both a 2500 and a 3500 before making your decision. They are dramatically different in their ride.
The ride quality is less important than the capability. They are vastly different in those terms. I've owned both and while there is a noticeable difference I'm not sure I'd say (IMO) dramatically different.

In the OP's case, unless they anticipate moving up to something much larger and much heavier in the future a 3500 is overkill in any flavor, as is a diesel for its current purpose.

I am not sure, it seems like what you really need is a DRW for that load.

On the 2025 model, the DRW also has a air level setup option, that is not available on the 3500 SRW, at least not yet.

Similar to you, I am watching and learning info about the 3500 SRW, but for a mega cab.
