Thinking I might need a 2nd catch can.

First mod of the 2022 season, YEA !!!!!.
Pulled the top of the air box off and noticed some oil residue in side. Pulled the hose off the TB and eewwww.
The breather tube from the oil fill has oil residue inside it. Not sure if I should hook can up to this hose or the hose coming from the back of the intake.
Seems like I should hook into the hose from the oil fill cap since this one is letting oil coat the intake hose, the sensor in the hose and starting to gum up the TB plate.
Looking for thoughts here.

start by cleaning all of that. your engine bay is filthy. its not surprising you have residue in your air intake tube. check the filter and sealing area for possible damage or improper installation. clean throttle body. ever change the pcv valve?

Yeah I know its filthy. I am not fond of power washing my engine when the temp is below 40 degs. Now that the weather is finally staying above 50 and not raining I can take care of this.

The dirty engine compartment has nothing to do with the oil residue in the air intake tube.

New filter 2 months ago, no damage and I installed it correctly. Been pulling wrenches for 45 yrs. Been working 70 plus hrs 6 days a week for the last 9 months, mon-sat. Unfortunately maintenance has taken a back seat.

I need to figure out where the pcv valve is. Not sure if it located in that block of plastic on the right rear of the intake with the locking cap, or if it located below the oil fill cap where the hose that runs over the intake to the air box lid which is where the oil is being suck into the lid.

As for the TB, it is now on the to do list as soon as I figure out how to stop the oil from getting into air box lid. That is why I think I might need to put a can on that hose as well.

well what it does show to me is that you go in dusty places so there is a higher chance of having contamination.

and yes the pcv is the twist out plastic part you photographed

Hemi, I live in Metro Detroit. "OIL RESIDUE" in the air intake tube between the airbox lid and the throttle body is my problem, NOT dust or dirt in the tube.
The oil is being suck through the tube that attaches to the bottom of the oil fill port on the left valve cover.
The other end of this tube attaches to the air box lid "ABOVE" the air filter, so there is nothing to filter out the oil mist before it enters the intake tube.
So please get over my dirty engine, its winter road grime. Living in Montreal I would expect you to understand this, unless you don't drive in the winter.

dont worry I have already gotten over the dirt.
the tube from the filler cap to air filter is the fresh air make up tube. the twist in valve part on the intake manifold is the pcv vàlve which recirculates crankcase vapors into the intake manifold to be burnt off. sometimes when it malfunctions you can get oil residue like that inside your ducts and TB. sometimes they all just need to be cleaned and thats it. clean it all and see if it comes back right away

You better hope it's a bad PCV,otherwise you have a ****load of blowby past the rings. If the PCV turns out to be okay, you better stick a borescope in the cylinders and look for a broken ring land

UPDATE : well I just had the oil changed at about a 4600 mile interval, drained the catch can for the first time since install, and was shocked at the almost 2 OZ's that came out. Glad it didn't get sucked back into the intake, but not happy about the amount of oil.

Don't worry about it,you'll always get more in the can during the winter, but get in the habit of draining it more often,as it's a real sh$tt show if you let it fill up to the point it can suck the contents of the can into the intake.

I can see that. I am old school, normally change oil at roughly 3-3.5K miles. But as usual life got in the way and I have spent the last 12 weekends deep cleaning and painting the father inlaws house.
The suck part is, I gave myself severe tendinitis in the process and now my right arm is 50% useless until I settle down and it heals.
Going to add the drain hose to the valve so I can drain oil into a bottle, instead of making a mess.

Drain it after the truck has been drove for awhile and is at full operating temp in the winter. I run a hose off my Moroso cans down under my toys,so all i need to do is kick my drain basin under them, flip the valve open and walk away for a 1/2 hour or more,so it drains completely.Best time to drain them is when you get home from work,by the time you're done having supper,it'll be completely drained . You can see the hose in behind the left hand filter.
