Holy moses... that all sounds high.

The Mopar oil filter is $15
Fleetguard/Mopar fuel filters are $75
Rotella T is about $17/gallon ($17 x 3 gal) = $51

The only thing my place provides is the oil... They charge $94.50 (+ my oil filter) = $109.50. I did all my own fuel filters.

All of that total is $184.50.

The last set I bought was on Amazon. Genuine Mopar (which is FG). It was $74.96 for the set back in January.

I just checked and it looks like they're running the oil filter and both fuel filters for $73.88. Says 50% off.

What year Cummins as the 2019+ engines the cost for both genuine fuel filters Mopar/Fleetguard is around $128. If your buying for a 2019+ engine I would be very carful of buying them on Amazon, have read of many buyer who received China knock off's that look like OEM boxed filters...

I had a 2016. 2019 might be slightly different. I don't really have any info on that, but if you say they are I'm sure you're correct.

The Mopar Store on Amazon is who I always purchased from. They're not knock offs.

I looked up the Mopar web site on Amazon, searched for 6.7 fuel filters, I was taken to the below web page, then I looked to see that the seller is NOT FCA/Mopar but some 3rd party seller called " Heela Homes " so can you know for sure where those filters came from and are not fake China Junk? Its BS like this is why I and others will spend a few extra $ too be sure what I am buying in not Fake China Junk... https://www.amazon.com/Dodge-Diesel-Filter-Separator-Mopar/dp/B00MGSC2IW?ref_=ast_sto_dp

I would be careful with that supplier. That is a SCREAMING deal for genuine fleetguard nanonet fuel filters, which leads me to believe they might be knock-offs. It's more like 100% off of what a big truck shop would charge a fleet account.

We have been pulling a boat that is at that weight with our Durango w/3.6 V6 for several years with no issues so far. I believe the engine can more than handle that kind of weight & aerodynamics. The thing I fear the most is the transmission. It's a great shifting trans, but it is that damn "forever fill" which I would be fine with if it was just a daily driver, but pulling this boat I would like the option to change the oil.

I spend $150 just on the two Mopar fuel filters. Look at the price of an injector compared to the cost of filters. Save money now pay more later. Over $1k each for injectors.

You can still change the transmission fluid and filter

I've been driving Ford F350's for over 20 years, just used to HD ride and torque out the *****. Maybe I need to stay the course and see how things shake out.
Stay the course . Your should easily tow the boat. Don’t know what year your last diesel was, but with all the pollution stuff, you’re just going to have more headaches. If you do a lot of short trips you’ll just have issues with the exhaust filter.

I did not read the other responses, so probably already been said: You can tow that weight with a VW, unless you want a 2500 for some other reason, your tow requirements are not a reason to buy one.

I do however really like my 2500 and I got it because I wanted a Crew Cab with a long box. No good reason beyond that as I rarely tow much. This one rides way better than my 96 2500 but still not near as good as the 1500. It also burns quite a lot more fuel than a 1500, I average 15 overall, hand calculated, my brothers 1500 is much closer to 20. Since I only drive the truck about 5000 miles a year, gas mileage is completely irrelevant, but if you drive a lot, that 5 MPG difference adds up pretty darn fast.
Update, the mileage on my 2500 continues to improve. Hit an all time high over 250 miles at 18.53 this week. Previous high was 17.85. Still, the overall average is only around 15 mpg, the 1500s do a lot better overall.
