This isn't part of my truck, is it?

Found this under my truck by my barn. A place where ONLY my truck has ever been.

Clearly it's to a radiator or coolant tank. Mine is in place as shown, as well as all other caps.

My working theory is that a tire slung it in to my undercarriage on the road and it fell out at home.

I hope I'm not overlooking something!

Thanks for looking,
Kevin

It is from a 2014-2020 Mopar from the part number. Coolant recovery cap, but yours is in place in the photo.

You ever change your cap and drop it? Or if you haven't had it since new, did the last guy?

well it does appear to be the correct part # for the EcoDiesel, some of the OEM caps would get stuck and break apart when removed. It hard to see exactly but the one on the truck looks like an aftermarket one.
The coolant tank looks low in that picture, the level should be slightly above the seam.

Looked up the part# and it's the correct part for your truck. But, obviously your cal is not missing.

My guess is that in the trucks past, whether at the factory or in a shop somewhere, someone dropped it into your engine well, couldn't find it, then installed a replacement. The lost cap then went for years long ride.

Untill it recently fell onto the ground, under your truck.

May yours was replaced at some time and when they did the exchange the original fell somewhere in the engine compartment and fell out later. Happens all the time with nuts and bolts.

Cap off your coolant filler bottle or radiator, depending on coolant system the eco diesels have. The 21 PSI is the give away. May be the cap was replaced and the old one left in the engine area by mistake..
You know what? Got me thinking.

Changed the radiator earlier in the week.

The truck was 2 years old when I got it. A previous overflow cap got down in there years ago and came dislodged installing the new radiator.

Whew! At least I can drive around with peace of mind now that I don't have something unoressurized.
