This normal?

I noticed under my vehicle that the “pumpkin” appeared to be “wet”. It’s not, just a little gummy maybe from dirt adhering. But around the plastic button area, it had that appearance.

The picture makes it look bad, but the area is dry, no dripping, etc.

Is this normal? Any thoughts?

This is on the rear of the vehicle.

Had an oil change recently? Could also be a bit of pressuring check your vent tube make sure it's clear.

Yes, probably in the last 300-500 miles at the dealer - though I’m not clear on the connection.

Can you tell me more about the vent tube?

They probly popped it out to check the level and left the residual instead of wiping it off. The vent tube is the rubber line that goes from the diff up to the frame. It allows the diff to vent without getting water in it. Sometimes they dust off and plug causing seals and plugs to leak.

I did have the fluid checked previously, and they probably were a little sloppy. (If this is where they check it.)

Any reason to rush it to the dealer for an eval?

I wouldn't. Money is the pulled the plug and we're sloppy. If it was leaking they're would be more if a trail and it would be clean washing the dirt out of its way if that makes sense. Give it a good wipe down and keep an eye on it. Like I said it's likely the dealer. They may have even topped it off overfilled it a bit and slammed the plug in its only rubber and compression fit.

From a different perspective, those plugs can start to seep and that's what it looks like. If it starts to drip $2 will fix it for you.

Looks like where oil came out during filling and they wiped it off - since it is oil it will be wet vs. the rest of the cover.

My diff cover looked just like this after my dealer checked the diff fluid. It looked like this for a few weeks until it dried out again. Nothing to worry about, it just takes forever to look normal again.
