First mistake: Messing w/ my throttle body and butterfly plate. Trying to knife edge my plate on a Moe's 87mm TB. No gaps on the plate, compared to stock plate. I swapped it in, Reinstalled the TB on my truck and Reconnected battery. Started it up and got 'lightning bolt' icon and the idle was surging. Okay that's a problem.

So I opened it back up, disconnected the batt, disassembled the TB plate and put back on the normal plate, then reinstalled the TB and connect the batt. Turned on the truck to the same problem icon and surging. That's a bigger problem. Did I just break the TB internals?? Or did the truck not reset?

I used my DS InTune to see what the codes were, why my engine was on rough idle and won't even accelerate. InTune said "No codes". What?! Okay.

About to put my stock TB on and hope the problem resets itself. I didn't expect this to happen. Fuggin' Mondays.

EDIT: TL;DR: Tried to knife-edge my 87mm TB butterfly plate. Got P0222, P0122, and P0123 codes due to irregular rpms. I also messed up the internals (sensors, actuators) in my stock TB, in the process, trying to swap plates. Dealership installed new TB and cleared issue.

THESE THROTTLE BODIES ARE DELICATE!! Be Gentle if cleaning/removing the plate (not recommended)

Check the pins in the electrical connection.

Yeah pins are good. It still has the engine restriction on it, w/ the stock TB installed. My theory right now is that the modified butterfly plate threw a code and it has to be electronically reset before accepting different TBs. My garage is about to run a check on it.

No judging here.
May I ask which side of the plate you knife-edged?
Did you KE both sides, or just the leading edge?

Weird. Maybe I was just very, very lucky when I KE'd mine, which was my first effort ever.

I expanded the factory edge and knifed the opposite edge. Pictured below:

When I first paired this plate w/ Moe's 87mm, my truck started LOUD and fast. It didn't take longer than a second to impose an engine restriction on itself.

Since then I returned to stock tune and installed the stock TB. I have to take it to a dealership now to get the TB to relearn.

So I guess my question is now: How do I prevent this "Limp mode" restriction AND keep this knife-edge plate?

What do you mean by "expanded the factory edge"?
Unless an edge is altered, you should be fine. Please let us know what happens after the relearn.

I mean along with creating an entirely new knife-edge on the opposite side of the plate, I also added 10mm more length to each side of the stock angled edge. Yeah.

got to love electronics

These trucks are SOO sensitive. I get why they need to be, but it makes them less resilient than their predecessors.

I'll get the list of codes from the dealership and post them later, in case anyone is thinking about knife-edging -- they'll know what to watch out for.

P0222 Idle Validation Signals Both Low
P0122 Throttle Pos Sens Voltage Low
P0123 Throttle Pos Sens Voltage High

This happens when you man-handle the delicate internal parts of these electronic throttle bodies, trying to clean/remove the butterfly plate. The dealer replaced the stock TB and cleared the codes on the dash (flashing lightning bolt & "SERV 4WD"). Let this be a lesson to all those attempting KE'ing their plate. Be gentle.
