The 68RFE transmission in the Ram is designed to slowly bring on the power as well, for that same reason. I've seen people complain that it's slipping when it's not. It's just designed not to deliver all of the torque instantaneously. That's why so many grenade them when they turn up the power.
If there truly is a problem with passing people because of a horrible response and it isn't just someone who is used to a gas engine's instant power band, there's likely a turbo issue. I've yet to have an issue with passing anyone at any speed I want and 20 psi of boost comes on pretty quickly when I need it. If it's not a turbo issue, then you likely just need to get used to how a diesel is designed to operate.
I certainly wouldn't try to make mods to get that seat of the pants feel without beefing up everything in the driveline or the next post may be that you broke a driveshaft, popped a ujoint, or burnt up a transmission or rear diff.
