I've noticed on the highway, around 75-80 mph, I hear a slight ticking from what I assume is the engine. Only seems to happen when I have my foot on the gas a little to keep it at those speeds. If I let off it stops. If I give it more gas, it stops. Or I just can't hear it anymore. I want to say I have an oil issue. I know I have an issue with oil disappearing between oil changes. Is there anything I can check, or test?

If it were oil, it would increase with RPM. You might have spark knock going on.

How should I go about fixing that or testing it? I do t want to ruin anything. I already had a head crack in me once.

I would say it's an exhaust leak. Mine does the same thing and I have a plethora of holes between the cat and muffler.

I don't think it's an exhaust leak, because I hear a definite exhaust leak as a separate sound.

I fixed the plenum as soon as I bought the truck. Still looks like new in there.

So, I had the truck sitting, all warmed up from driving all day, and i revved it to 2000 rpms, and held it there. I could hear the ticking, or knocking. And it was pretty loud. And it definitely picked up speed with rpms. So, what should I do?

If something is sticking causing it to tick/knock it usually breaks it down. Take a little less than a quarter of the bottle and pour it in the crankcase. If anything it'll clean the bottom end.

I'm just worried that I have an oil issue. I know I'm losing oil somewhere, as whenever u change my oil I only seem to get 3 quarts out if the motor. I feel like it's not getting where it's supposed to at higher rpms. But I'll try that.

When you did you plenum repair, did you change the plate too, or just the gasket? Also, is it at a good level right now? I mean, you are replacing the missing oil between changes right? Low oil will cause you to hear a tick too.

I added another quart 6edterday at it was low. Yes, I replaced the plate too. I know the deal with the plenums, and how they really need to be fixed.

Just checking. Some people just replace the gasket. Any leaks on the oil pan or dripping down the valve covers? Smell burnt oil at startup or once it's warm? Any smoke at all?

No smoke whatsoever. I'll have to take a look when I have a moment for drips, but I don't ever recall seeing anything at all.

I'd say you have a sticking lifter. As for the oil no smoke and no smell, then a gasket needs replacing, but if you close to two quarts low at oil change, it sounds like your burning more than you are leaking. A leak like that, you'd have drips in the driveway.
