I see that there are two part numbers for Timbren: DR1500DS and DR1500DQ. I see that one is rated for 6k pounds and the other is rated for 8600 pounds. Anyone have experience with either one. Which would you use for a 1500 classic warlock that will see occasional towing of a 5000 pound travel trailer? I would think 6000 psd would be sufficient. Any real world experience?

The quirk about Timbrens is if they don't stay engaged with the axle, like when towing or haul a load they can make the ride harsh when traversing rough roads. Consider going with air bags if you don't want the ride to effected.
Your probably correct on just needing the lighter rated version as you'll want to use a WDH also which will mitigate some of the squat.

I have the 1500ds on 2014 ram cc. Love them. Tow a 6k 30 ft tt and they eliminated any squat. As wild one says drive is a little harder over bumps (when not towing) but you will get use to it. But as far as towing with them ,with a good wdh, have no problems towing tt.
