Well, its been a month of fun.
About a month ago I got the wild hair up my ass to change out the subwoofer I have in my truck for 2. Oh.......then add another amp.
So, what I had before:
Head Unit: Kenwood DDX319
Dash: Kicker KS35
Headliner: stock
Front Doors: Kicker KS6.2 Components
Rear Doors: Kicker KS693
Amp: Kicker IX1000.5
Sub: Kicker CVX 10
Box: Hand built fiberglass box (sealed)
I wanted a bit more "oomph" and I've had a nice alternator whine for.....a while..........so.......figured I'd let someone else mess with it (I don't have time for my truck anyway...)
Decided it was time to get back to a FoxBox, dual 10" vented this time around, so I ordered that on April 8th, same day I ordered my new subs and amp. Joe (Fox) is running a bit behind on the boxes, so I didn't get it until 4/25.
New subs, CVX10s. I have something for those.....I've probably owned about 12 CVXs in various vehicles over the past 10 years.
New amp, Kicker (who else, see the theme here??) - KX1200.1
Install scheduled for 4/26. Dropped the truck off at 10........and the fun began. They called me a few hours into it, said that my 1000.5 has issues. They fired it up, it made a very large hiss.......whine, whatever - and won't on now. UGH. So, they put a loaner amp in for now, until I can get that stuff figured out. No big.....I'll figure something out there. Ordered a Kicker IX500.4. (Didn't need the 5 channel at this point anyway).
I go to pick up the truck........and holy hell there is a MASSIVE noise issue. Its not alternator whine........its a freakin' chiming noise, throughout the amped speakers. I was in a hurry that night, took the truck, said they can fix it later when I come to swap the amps out.
Today, install day 2. Guy calls me, says its 99% gone, truck is ready to go......... hmm. Get up there, fire it up. Nope. Not leaving. Its not gone, this is not fun. Top that........the subs that were pounding away for the last week have lost 80% of their power. I mean, WTF is going on here?!?!!
We **** with it for a bit in the parking lot, screw it - pull it back in the bay. Pull everything back out. I'm back there helping them (which sucked, I had **** to do!). Guy says that the only thing he can think of is the head unit.......I saw one on the shelf, said - toss it in, lets see.
Yup, great. My head unit is ******. This new one sounds great, better than EVER before, no noise AT ALL. Finally button it up, 3 hours after I get there to pick it up.
ARGH.
But, its pounding away, and I mean......its crazy. With the old HU I had the bass up to 8 (out of 10) and the knob on the Kicker on about 3/4. Volume between 20-25 to get 'er going.......ummm, not anymore. I haven't gotten the volume over 15, its just too freakin' loud. LOL
Freakin' love it. Kicker kicks ass!!
