I'll save y'all my Japanese junk comments.....but they are there....lol

Ridgeline is not a real truck, its Pilot based, uni-body construction. A car with a bed. That would be a huge step backwards from your ram.

Tacoma's are nice, but I don't care for the seating position and they just feel, well Japanese to me....lol so for me personally, no thank you.

The Nissan frontier is a nice midsize truck, but again Japanese so I just couldn't do it.

The new Rangers are very nice as are the Chevy Colorado GMC Canyon twins. All full frame, truck construction. I like Ford so I'd go for the ranger, but that's just me. With what those cost you can buy a full size truck though.

You say you don't need a full size truck, but do you want one? If so, go do what needs to be done...lol! Good luck Sir.

I love the Tacoma’s and wanted to buy one, but my mostly loaded ram was less money than a mid level Tacoma. Resale on them is indeed great, but if buying new, that resale comes at a heavy upfront cost.
True, but he had an Outdoorsman, so he sounded like a midsized truck was on his radar, not back to another FS truck. Like the Tundras, they cost more up front, but in the end, you do get way more when ready to sell if in good shape.

I looked at new a new TRD pro Tacoma and I am not a giant size guy ie 5'10" 190lb and felt like I was stuffed in it. Also under powered and tranny in need of an upgrade.

I own a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 double cab long bed 6 cylinder and went to trade it in when I bought my 2019 ram 1500 classic crew cab hemi and could not bare to part with her. But I had to have a bigger truck as I now frequently tow a 5000 lb. boat with over 1000 lb payload. The Tacoma pulled it as long as there were not any steep hills but stopping that much weight was a job. So now I must rearrange my budget to upkeep 2 trucks. I hope all the things I now hear about the Hemi that I didn't hear before are due to maintenance issues. lol!

I don't know... now that the 2021 Gladiator is ECO Diesel It's a serious contender to replace my PW (besides of course the 2021 PW)

I wouldn't worry about it personally. You hear a lot of bad in internet forums but not all of the good that far outweighs the bad.

I would suggest you do PMs every 5k miles and use a high quality oil filter and oil (I suggest the high end full synthetic such as the ester based Redline with extra zddp and a royal purple filter, which has a silicone anti drain back valve) and then just run it. Avoid excessive idling if possible, but that goes for any engine really.

whatever you decide on you will be happy with, but selling a 2 year old truck for another new one, what would hold me off is thinking of all the money lost on depreciation versus keeping one that may be a bit overkill for your needs, but hope you are happy with your final decision.

I took a total hit of 9 grand from out the door price to what I sold it for after 2 years. I didn't think that was bad at all. Best part is if I need to use a full size I know where I can borrow a good one.

The gladiator is a life style truck. Way over priced. It's also small, cramped, and boxy.

The tacoma is also costly, has an underpowered engine and a transmision that is several decades old. As a guy that is 6'5 or 6'6 in steel toes, I could never pretzel myself into the cab, it's just cramped and tiny everywhere. You buy a toyota truck (these days) because you're a toyota fan, not because it makes sense in any way. Same thing with the tundra, completely outdated.Once they update their trucks they might have something compelling, but for the last 5 years, completely pointless trucks.

If you don't need a truck, my vote would be Grand Cherokee (not Cherokee, they're different SUV's) with either the Hemi or EcoDisel.

Man but it stinks asking to borrow someone else's stuff. Plus those late day, hey I need X at lowes runs can't happen. Wow a 9k hit after only 2 years. To me that's a lot, at least a quarter of the price right? I'm actually suprised with how well trucks hold their value, especially in this day and age.

To each their own, but as long as I've been driving I've only been without a pickup as either my dd or spare for 2 or so time periods. The times I didn't have one I sure missed it. But good luck with your decision you have to do what's best for you.

The gmc canyon Denali is sweet, has diesel option also. I like looking at us news and world reports car reviews. If you google the truck/car you like, such as, “2017 GMC Canyon us news” their reviews comes up. Then you may proceed down the rabbit hole, lol!

If you don't need a pickup I'd get a Jeep Wrangler. The new JLU's are really nice. Have just under 300 HP with the V6. If you build one on line or find one on a lot somewhere you can get really good deals, if you don't get all the unnecessary bells and whistles.

We bought our 2010 JKUR new, have 145 thousand miles on her and love it. There's something to be said about driving around with no doors and top down. Fun vehicles and ours has been very reliable. Just normal wear and tear items had to be replaced/repaired.

Side note, get a dashcam. If I had one I wouldn't have had to pay for my trucks damage. Dude in the Tacoma ran a red light and no witnesses stuck around.

Currently, I use a dash cam everyday and its already paid for itself. Had a lady fail to stop at a stop sign and crash into my Ram. Her insurance paid for everything 3 days later. Repairs, rental, loss of value, everything. At first, her insurance company gave me some line about waiting one month to complete an investigation. I emailed the dashcam video to the adjuster and cc my lawyer. Immediately they called me back. They were extremely cooperative!
