Guys, If his has been covered I can't find it, nor can I find definitive information in any videos.

Assembling my motor today and from everything I read, viewed, etc the timing chain tensioner and guide bolts are supposed to torque to 21 Ft Lbs??? These are small M6 bolts - that seemed high to me but I saw that spec in multiple [places.

Well, snap - using a In Lbs wrench set to 150 inch pounds, which is about 12 ft lbs. The tensioner bolt snapped. And of course nobody has them in stock! I can't find them anywhere that can get them to me in a reasonable amount of time. Out of stock at Rock. Mopar only had 2, and locval dealers tell me three weeks to get them. It's a freaking bolt!

So What is the torque spec on those bolts? I still have the guide to do but I do not trust what I think is the spec.

20 Ft Lbs? I'm afraid to do it.

Thanks

Summit: Ships on Nov 12
Jegs: Ships on Oct 31.

This is ridiculous, Can I substitute a non Mopar bolt, Maybe a Hex cap Head and washer? I am open to ideas.
How about this: It is harder at 10.9 grade over the stock 9.8 grade?

If you have a Grainger or Fastenal near you try them as they specialize in industrial fasteners. I’ve had good luck with both in the past finding nuts and bolts.

Unfortunately no, and I have no way of getting there. I am beyond frustrated. I don't see why a nut and bolt with greater strength and threadlocker wouldn't work but I am looking for opinions. I have been wthout a vehicle now for 2 weeks.

I am thinking a grade 10.8 flanged bolt, add an 18mm flat washer, (stock bolt washer is ~17mm, add some medium thread locker and torque it to? What?

THANK YOU!

Now to make some comments on these YouTube videos that called out 21 ft. lbs!

I ended up finding some flange bolts of the same length at Advance, I then beat the factory bolt out of the washer, gave the washer a slight drilling and now I have better bolts that the factory while maintaining the washer diameter. But a wasted afternoon and a lot of frustration.

I'm getting too old for this crap!Bolts.jpg

Wish I would’ve saw this sooner. Right there with you…went to what I thought was“spec” and snapped it as well.

Lesson learned!
