Kinetic energy is a *****. At 70 MPH a 5,000 Lb vehicle has 800,000 Ft/Lb's of energy. At 110 MPH it has 2,000,000 Ft/Lb's. Think about where all that energy will go if something goes wrong at 110MPH.
When I was at Ft Bragg in the early 2000's a young soldier was coming to the Reilly Road gate doing in excess of 70 MPH. He hit a Honda Civic stooped at the light before the gate. The vehicle went airborne and landed on a civilian leaving the base on his motorcycle. The mother and daughter in the Honda were killed instantly as well. The only thing left of the Honda was the floor pan and wheels. It looked like a bomb had exploded in the Honda. At first I thought it was a suicide bomber until I saw the other vehicles. Parts were scattered all over the four lane intersection, in the trees and some even hit the gate house.
