So, this rig blew his rear end a few days back and was blocking several dock doors at our facility. He couldn't move under his own power. So, I had to pull it out of our parking lot and onto the street to await the wrecker. Had to use 4 low as my back wheels were spinning in 2wd. Pulled him about 1000 ft. What does one of these weigh? Just curious.

Apx 13.5-ish tons, depending on how full the fuel tanks, how much personal items are in the cab and how fat the driver is. Don't get too big of a head over this, the Toyota Tundra pulled the Space Shuttle and the electric F-150 pulled a locomotive.

Pretty cool pull, 4lo was the right move for less drivetrain stress in addition to the traction portion. Any pics?

About 22,000 pounds... trucks have gotten lighter the last several years.

My 2022 Freightliner Cascadia midroof weighs under 20,000 even full of fuel.

Once you move the semi truck an inch, as long as you don't stop, a lawn tractor could keep it rolling, BUT that first bit of movement takes a strain

I have moved 2 railroad freight cars with this tool, almost any teenager could do it

Interesting, my 2021 weighs in ~27000, both 110 gallon tanks full. 32,000 when hooked to empty 48ft spread axle aluminum body conestoga.

Varies with how the trucks are spec'd.... mine has two 80 gallon tanks, I'm still under 30,000 even with a 48 foot flatbed and all the securement equipment I carry.

Granted, how a truck is spec'd makes a difference but Even if yours has an aluminum frame, carbon fiber day cab, single drive axle and a tiny gas engine it would be really difficult to add up the claimed apx 7,000 lb difference.

Man I haul 50,000 pound coils and rebar loads with it all the time, it has a DD13, 12 speed auto, super single rear tires (4 of them)... and there are trucks on the road that are lighter...Fraley and Schilling company trucks for one.

I've picked up new trucks coming across the border that still had the paperwork in them from the factory... the bare empty weight is less than 18,000 on some of them.

I know that there are lighter, just having a hard time coming up with the weight difference between yours and mine. Seems the Setups are similar with the main difference being the size and number of wheels, and that's definitely not 7000 pounds...

How would you like to drive one of these rigs every day, i still have the CDL, but i just Escórt the rig & load

img0990y.jpg
This load was going to South Padre Island, Texas
It is a Turbine Generator, built in San Diego

My load was going to Los Angeles area, it was going to take a ship ride
img1069ou.jpg

This load was going to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
From San Diego, i just followed out of town, to get to the main highway, it was less than 12 feet wide

This pic reminds me rail yards when I worked as a signalman for the CNR. It was freaking mostly at night because some a**hats frequently neglect to apply handbrakes on parked cars. Even a little wind could make a boxcar moving, fast, and deadly silent...

I did that for quite a few years, kinda miss it to be honest... I've been pulling a skateboard the last several years and I've done good at it, but flatbeddin is young man's game... and I'm not as young as I used to be.

The heavy hauling was slower paced and had its own headaches at times... but was a lot less work overall... and paid good, but kept me away from home a lot.

The condo freightliner sleepers I usually drove were somewhere in the 18,000 pound range. It depends on the configuration though. The motor makes a big difference, as does the transmission. I always managed to have a standard 10 speed (I imagine a 12 speed automatic would be heavier). Also, the type of sleeper makes a big difference. Some of the KW's are fiberglass bodies, not sheet metal. I always preferred Freightliners, 10 speed, and Cummins motors but the D-15 Detroits were good too

Thats right, the coefficient of static friction and stationary inertia is much greater than the coefficient of dynamic friction and inertia.

As for the tool, its exerting a massively multiplied leveraged force.

Archimedes famously said:
Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.

Precisely this. Wheels make it easy to do a lot if you do it slowly and over a short distance.

Consider that you and two other people can push a 35,000lb F-16 over a sufficiently flat surface w/o any mechanized assistance.
