Found out last minute I will need pick up my boat/trailer from a friend's house that's about 170 miles from where I live. The boat/trailer weights roughly 5100 lbs. Currently my truck (Limited w/6'4" bed) only has 140 miles on it. By the time I get out to my friend's house it will have a little over 300 miles on it. And from what I've read, it's recommended to not tow anything until after 500 miles. The first 110 miles back home will be relatively a straight and level drive. Then the next 50-60 miles will be going up and down grades. The rest of the way will be down hill and level driving. With that said, would there be a huge concern of me damaging the powertrain because I'm under the recommend 500 miles and barely hitting the 300 break-in period?

Only my take on your question/challenge. Break in period has a purpose. I do not tow until I have 1000 miles. That said, you won't blow up that motor. If you can make other arrangements, great. If you have to do what you have to do, just drive it smart.

It won’t hurt anything to tow now. Just drive a lil slower and responsibly. Don’t be aggressive with it. Folks buy trucks and immediately put a trailer behind it for work.
That’s the whole reason I bought my truck it had 30 miles when I hooked up my trailer 6500# took off on a 1000 mile trip. Makin that cash! Currently has 5800 miles on it and still pulling that trailer

This.

And change the oil 1,000 miles sooner, and cut the transmission fluid change interval by 15% just to be safe.
