Quick question...

When I bought my last truck (2008 F150), I remember there being a "harness" or whatever you want to call it that plugged into the factory pin connector on the truck, then that plugged into the trailer harness.

Was there something included with my truck when new? Just bought my Ram used with 24k miles on it. Didn't get one, so was going to call the dealer and see if they'll get me one if it originally came with one. Not really sure what to ask for if that's the case. :Wedgie:

From my factory build sheet:
XFH Class IV Receiver Hitch
XFKS 7 Pin Wiring Harness
XFUS Trailer Tow w/4-Pin Connector Wiring

You mean a 4 pin adapter? Some trucks that come with the 7 pin connector only also come with an adapter to go from 7 to 4 pin.

you should have both built in and nothing is needed to plug in a trailer.

Unless you don't have a factory brake controller. If I recall correctly, some Fords game with a harness adapter to connect an aftermarket brake controller. It plugged into the factory harness under the dash and had 4 wires.

Don't quite get what you are asking? Your truck has a 7 and 4 pin plug so what would you need a harness for?

That's what I get for thinking on the couch and not checking.

I was thinking about the adapter.

LOL. If you don't have a brake controller though, you'll need one to have trailer brakes. I just put my Prodigy controller that I kept from my last truck into my 2011 Ram. All I needed to buy was the Prodigy to Dodge Ram adapted harness and it was plug-n-play.

Just plug one end into the Prodigy and the other end into the factory plug hanging under the dash.
