Just got a new 2017 ram and looking to add a lift in tires but can't decide what to do based on towing performance. I'm looking at a 3 inch suspension lift with 33's but I would really like a 4 or 6 inch lift with 35's. My problem is, I have 3.21 gears and don't know how much my towing performance will be effected with 35's. I know that a lot of people run 35s with 3.21s but I can't find anything about that setup WHILE towing. I hardly ever tow (which seems like an answer within itself) but I like to have that 8000#s available if I need it. Any help is appreciated.

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m looking at doing a 3in on 305/55 or 35s but don’t want to lose out on my 8k towing when I need it. (Which won’t be very often..but still....)

I talked to the guy that did this video and he said he is able to tow his 7k trailer no problem. But personally I’d like to see how many other people do this before I make the jump to do 35s.

My only other concern is that I’ve read about how people wind up having transmission problems on 35s + with 3.21s
(who don’t seem to tow be anything). I can’t imagine how hard it actually pushes the transmission with a trailer close to 8k lbs.

Personally I’m leaning more towards the 305/55/R20 because my truck stock is running 20s on 33s so I am anticipating little to no performance lose and no transmission problems which theoretically shouldn’t take away my towing capabilities.

Hey that’s me! Here’s my old setup, I’ve since gotten a 2018 8 speed hemi. As far as being hard on the trans even on a 500 mile trip I never got above 190 degrees. These trucks tow great.

I have 3.21 with 35s. I tow a buddy's boat time to time. 24ft aluminum jet boat probably around 5k. going over a a steep hill with switch backs. Plenty of power and doesn't get hot. Fuel economy goes from 16 to 11ish.
