Trans. issue

I have a 2001 Ram, 1500, 5.9 gas 4x4 automatic.....lately when in reverse or neutral, I can hear like a whirling sound, not loud but can hear it, never in drive or park. Are there any adjustments or anything on this trans, or is it thinking of going belly up?

I don't have the answer you are looking for, but I have the same thing in reverse and someone told me it is common problem and mentioned what it was and it was nothing to worry or rush to fix. Someone claimed they had it for over 100k miles from what I remember and the truck was still going strong.
