im planning to flush my trans and change the filter, biggest question is do i have to adjust the bands or not. I know the dealer would do that but id rather do the service myself and replace other needed parts.

Yes adjust the bands. Sounds be done every time trans is serviced

Do not FLUSH the trans just change the fluid, when most adjust the bands its not long after the tranny fails so up to you.

I agree about flushing. That usually just stirs up the **** that's in there, but I doubt a properly done band adjustment is going to make it fail anytime soon.If someones trans failed right after an adjustment then obviously it wasn't done right or it was a huge coincidence.
I talked personally with the owner of CascadeTransmissionParts.com and he said that the factory specs are too tight and cause extra wear and can create problems. He suggested 2.5 turns backing off on the front and 4 on the rear
