Going in under warranty but was wondering if this is a common issue? It's a 2500 if that matters

Dat Cummins!
I don't recall anyone else having a problem with it. I hope this is not going to be a problem that effects other owners. Keep us updated.

Hope the dealer treats you well.
Sounds like an opportunity to swap out the fluid with some good quality Amsoil synthetic!

You have a couple options:
https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-prod...c-automatic-transmission-fluid/?code=OTFQT-EA
or
https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-prod...c-automatic-transmission-fluid/?code=ATFQT-EA

For how much you need, you'll need to order 4 pints regardless of which TC you have- check using your VIN
Transfer Case, NV241 GENII..........3.4 pints
Transfer Case, NV243..........3.4 pints
Transfer Case, NV244 GENII..........3.4 pints
Transfer Case, NV246..........4 pints
Transfer Case, NV271..........4 pints
Transfer Case, NV273..........4 pints
(It will never empty 100% of fluid out, so even if it says 4 pints you'd be safe ordering only 4 pints)
Hope this helps!
