I have a 2016 ram 1500 with a 6 speed tranny, 3.55 gears 5.7 hemi rated to tow 8700 lbs -with tow haul . Just bought a camper with loaded weight aprox 8,000 lbs. Does it have a transmission cooler? Woll it help to go to 10 ply tires? It will cost $4k to switch to 3.92 gears to get 10k lbs towing. What less expensive options will help tow this thru White mountains in New Hampshire

You're going to want a good weight distribution hitch to start with..

Read up about the 8 speed transmission. Yes it will push upwards of 200° and from reading about temps from many people who posted about towing heavy, don't be concerned about the temp unless it exceeds the coolant temp.

I cant imaging you will have a problem. I pull a 37 foot camper 7800 lbs , truck rated for 8700. I added air bags- increased weight to 5,000 lbs. put 10 ply tires, put in a kn air filter, makes a big difference

wut he said^^^ You probably have the multi-page EVIC, the trans temp will be on one of the pages. You can customize the display to show an analog trans gauge also

Getting your WDH set up correctly make all the difference when tow big/heavy with these trucks.
Read some posts by VernDiesel, he tows Airstreams to all over the country with his EcoDiesel (400K + miles and counting). He has some great set up advice for how set up a trailer for towing.

good tips. where I bought my trailer set up my hitch on my last truck. I figure I will hook up and go there and have their guys set it up. took all of 10 minutes before..the hitch is over an inch higher off the ground than with my 2017 sierra but I bet with coil springs I will get more sag so will probably end up pretty close to what I had before.

Proper set up and a excellent sway control helps alot. I have the reese trunion straight line with cam shafts. With the airbags i can carry whatever i want and all i have to do is add air and my camper is perfectly level

I hooked up my trailer to new truck and took down to CAT scales yesterday. truck and trailer perfectly level so looks like no need to adjust WDH. whole rig weighed in at 11540# so still under the 17,000 the factory shows as max. felt a slight bit of shimy so may put on airbags or look into swaybar upgrade. even saw under 2000 rpm's at 65 some.

What was the front axle weight with the WDH engaged? You want you front axle weight as much or more than when there is no trailer attached (but not more than the rear axle weight). You'll want to check and adjust the WDH while fully loaded, extra tongue or payload weight can change your adjustment.
