Transmission crapped out

Little basic info, I have an 05, 1500 quad cab short bed with the 5.7 hemi. All stock with an AEM brute force intake and Flowmaster super 40 cat back exhaust. Just hit 124000 miles the other day. Yesterday I'm driving around I heard a small clunk and my rpms went all the way up like i slipped into neutral. Tried all the gears, reverse, 4wd, 4wd low nothing. Park still worked and it sounded like a pump was making a ton of noise in the trans that I never heard before. Pulled the starter, ring gear was fine torque converter was connected still I figured the bolts came loose or something. The mechanic in the shop next door to my shop said something happened to my front pump or something in the case.
Either way, I am figuring worst case scenario here that I need a new trans or need to get it rebuilt. My plans for the future are to pull the engine and build it up a little get a bit more HP out of it do a programmer and such. Nothing ridiculous just more than stock. My dads friend is a trans tech and he always recommends "stock builds" and wont do a performance build for me. What do you guys out here recommend? Go with a new replacement stock trans, or find someone to build up the core that I have if it's still rebuildable? Much appreciated in advance!

Welcome, there are some standard upgrades such as 6.1 oil pump, timing chain and valve springs (exhaust). Cam, headers, converter and gears. These make for a nice truck with the personal touch to make it standout. The exact parts will reflect what your goals are for the truck. Good luck...
