I have a 2018 ram 1500 quad cab with a 5.7 hemi. I have the eight speed transmission.
I’ve had a delayed engagement on the truck since 27,000 miles. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or warmed up.
It takes 3 to 4 seconds to go into gear from park to drive or from park to reverse, and then from reverse to park or park to reverse
It’s annoying to have to wait 3 to 4 seconds from Park to reverse or vice versa. The transmission is completely full as I just did a transmission service. Any thoughts would be great.

Tell us exactly how you checked the fluid level when you did the service.

I leveled the oil pan of the transmission. Then I drained and removed the oil pan of the transmission.

The total amount of fluid drained was 5 1/2 quarts.

After replacing the transmission oil pan and filling it with enough, eight speed, nine speed, Mopar transmission fluid green in color to where it came out of the fill plug, I started the engine.

Then I return back to the underside of the truck and continue to fill up the transmission oil pan.

It took just a few ounces less than 6 quarts to fill it up.

I capped off the transmission and waited for the transmission to heat up to 100°

In the meantime, I put the truck in reverse, drive, neutral, park, second gear and let the wheels rotate, back into park. Then I let the transmission heat up to 100°.

At 100° I returned to the underside of the truck and removed the fill plug and several ounces more drained back out.
I figured job was complete.

It does shift smoother and feels more complete if that makes any sense. However, it still has that delay between reverse and drive or between park reverse and drive.

Truck now has 46,800 miles on it and it is still doing the same thing. Delay between Park and reverse, and reverse to drive, etc. I just make sure that I have adjusted my driving habits accordingly when I am shifting gears.
Other than the delay shifting,
The transmission works flawlessly.

Best place to take it for this kind of issue on a low mileage ram Is the dealer DO NOT tell them you changed the fluid yourself I work at a dealer trust me lol. If its not covered at least you found the issue and oyu can fix it your self prob have to pay Diag fee tho.

It sounds like you did the procedure ok. The only thing extra I would've done is a recheck after taking it for a drive to get to full operating temp,

Kind of a pain, but I'm not sure it would take a whole lot more fluid.

Dealer is prob the best option, maybe you just need a reflash of the trans.

Please let us know what is found.

So far at this point, I haven’t found anything. It is still slow, engaging, reverse and drive. I’m going to check the fluid this coming weekend. If the fluid level checks out, I will make an appointment at the stealer and see if they can diagnose or see if there’s a problem under warranty. I will complete this post guys.
