Evening everyone
New to the forum I don't normally do forums but I had a question about 2016 Ram 1500 Bighorn
5.7l Hemi Transmissions
My wife's transmission went out 1 month ago
Been at the ram dealer ever since
They said 6th gear went out tranny needs to be replaced
Truck has 84,000 miles on it and this is the second tranny first one out at 28,000 miles
This truck has never towed anything we bought it brand new
They are telling us that the tranny is under factory warranty because it's going off the first one they replaced
They are telling us the tranny is on back order with NO ETA
Also telling us there are no transmissions for this in the country ( yes your reading this correctly)
All the while
My 2015 ring and pinion went out so now 2 trucks in the same dealership
They had to get an after market ring and pinion
That truck has been in there for 3 weeks
Question for you ram guys is
As anyone actually heard of these trannys being on backorder with no eta and no being able to get parts?
I find this hard to believe
The dealer also told us yesterday ( his words not mine) people do rebuilt transmissions anymore they just replace them
How the hell is that possible if there aren't any?
I like the rams
But we're done with them
Especially after all this
My 2015 bought 1 year old
Has been in the dealer 3 seperate times for exhaust manafold bolts being broke
Does anyone on this forum have any info or can actually validate any of this
Dealer is actually willing to buy back the 2016 but we're switching to Chevy Duramax with the Allison
Thanks in advance

Your dealer is probably telling you a “half-truth”. There are PLENTY of transmissions available for exchange. The Problem in Your Case is that you are subject to a WARRANTY-exchange so Only a transmission in the “warranty system” can be used for an exchange.
A possible work-around is if the dealership will REPAIR your existing transmission instead of a complete exchange. Unfortunately, dealerships these days no longer employ mechanics….(people who can actually repair broken machinery)….. they have only “technicians”….another term for “parts-replacers”.

It may serve you better to take your transmission to a genuine transmission-repair facility and bite-the-bullet. Otherwise…. check your warranty paperwork… Genuine Mopar Warranties often provide replacement rental vehicles while awaiting repair. (mine does, up to $45/day)

BTW… a commonly un-realized reason for transmission failures is: Changing OEM tires/wheels to larger aftermarket tires/wheels ..which places additional strain and wear on high-gear/overdrive/final-drives in transmissions not originally-designed or equipped for that up-size in final gear-ratios. Another cause: Towing and forgetting to use “tow-haul” or forgetting to turn-off the overdrive, burning-up the final-drive in the transmission.
The factory engineers used sound-engineering principles which are often disrupted by home-grown-good-ol’-boys who don’t realize what they’re doing to the expensive engineering that went into that vehicle at the factory. But looking-kool is what they valued.
