This is the only OEM pan I know of...

At least, the pan the OEM should have used!

If you plan to change your fluid in the future, a pan with a replaceable filter is the only way to go.

... here's my PPE tranny pan/filter and 7 quarts of MOPAR 8/9 Speed ATF and my pump sprayer modified from the idea of Wild one (Rick) sitting in my spare room that I bought last year for my truck that I don't have anymore ... I should at least knock the dust off of boxes ...

115,000 miles on my 2014 5.7L. Is it too late to change out the transmission fluid and filter or do I go ahead and do it. If you have similar miles and it has never been done what did or what do you plan on doing?

OP, change out your tranny fluid and filter using your trusted mechanic.

Your mileage is past the suggested manufactured service and I think you should be ok doing the tranny service ... it's probably never to late, rather never being done.

Hammer down and Happy motoring!

Got to thinking about this a little more… The fill plug on the tranny is high, it’s actually well above the lower level of the valve body. At that point there is likely little fluid difference between the pan “level” and the truck “level” since the area for fluid around the valve body is minimal.

I’d venture to bet if someone that filled their tranny according to the green sheet would crack that plug open with the vehicle level you’d see only a small amount of fluid come out (for the purposes of betting, I’d say 1/4 qt or less)

Probably why shops don’t care about leveling the tranny.

It's usually closer to a quart differance between levelling and not leveling the pan,i've checked this several times.
Ever since i blew up my original 8 speed 8 years ago i've been changing the fluid at the start of every race season,as my truck puts down 572 lb-ft to the tires and is a bit rough on the transmission.
A 1/2 quart low has also caused a few guys to have shifting or slip issues.
Quit trying to overthink ZF's engineers and just follow the damn green sheet instructions,i'm pretty sure they know more then your tech buddies in regard to the 8 speed.
You'll argue the stupidest of points won't you :waytogo:

Ugh whatever.

I don’t give a flying f what you think. Point is that the dealerships will not tip your vehicle on a lift no matter what you tell them

You're not stupid enough to have not noticed the amount of guys who claim their 8 speed shifts better after a fluid change. You also aren't stupid enough to think those claims come from a 1/2 a fluid change,it comes from the fact the transmission actually finally has the proper fluid level in it.
Even you must realize a fluid change won't change the shifting patterns, but having the correct amount of fluid will.
I might be giving you to much credit,as you're also the guy who deleted 8th in his 8 speed and started calling it the same as a 3.92 geared truck, but with a 7 speed, but i don't think i am :waytogo:
Nice edit by the way, play nice so the thread doesn't get locked down:Big Laugh::Big Laugh:

The next time you talk about billet cams and the poor engineering design choice of the cam height on the hemi just remember… those engineers know more than you too

That's just common sense, even you should be able to see that ;)
I'm pretty sure you have a wee bit of common sense, but i'm really starting to wonder now:Big Laugh:
If possible lets keep the thread on track,we're talking about the 8 speed here, not the cam issues :waytogo:
