I have a new 2022 Ram 1500 3.6 Pentastar e-torque with 3.21 rear axle. I find it difficult to get the transmission to shift into 8th gear, even when I try to lift lightly on the throttle. I can sometimes go 60-65 mph hour and it won’t shift. Will the transmission learn to shift eventually? Alternatively, is there a “tune” or ”chip” available to help in this? I am not looking to lug the engine in 8th, I just think it is ridiculous to be going 65mph in 7th.

The Pentastar V6 is low on torque. The ZF 8 speed helps keep it closer to its powerband. I have the same experience with my 2018 3.6, 8speed with 3:21 gears. With the 3:21 7th and 8th are actually overdrive as 6th is the one to one ratio. In 7th you’re running in OD. The 3.6 just doesn’t have the torque to utilize 8th without perfect conditions. Wind, drag, incline in the road, speed above 70mph will send the Pentastar back down into 7th.

Yes I agree that it is low on torque. However, around town it has no problem shifting quickly into 6 and even 7 between 35-40 mph. The 3.6 is very fuel efficient around town. The truck just loves 7th gear, but not 8th. Could it be an issue of throttle sensor position? Is there an adjustment for this?

It's not the transmission, there is nothing wrong with your truck or anything that can be fixed.

The engine just doesn't make enough torque at those RPMs to drive that speed into that headwind or up a hill etc.
