2001 with a 5.9L Cummins diesel. Strange whisling noise coming from exhaust. Could it be a sign that the turbo is failing? Never had a turbo fail so, I don't know what look/listen for. thanks, gregjo1948

Wouldn’t think a failing turbo would whistle in the exhaust, never had that experience. I have had a failing dump valve cause a whistle tho! Use a stethoscope and see if you can determine source.

Do you only here it at the end of that tail pipe? (not in the engine bay). Usually a whistle is a sign of an exhaust or intake leak

I'm going to check closer for the whistle. I'm thinking it may be exhaust leaking past the exhaust brake.

Could be a leak around the rubber couplers.
