I bought the truck new at the end of 2018 and I just can't handle the 5.0 radio anymore. I asked our local dealer to upgrade but was told it's not possible. Found this forum a couple weeks back, decided I'll just follow along and do this on my own. I'm posting because I'm brand new here, I've read through many threads yet I'm a bit confused as there's a ton of info and I just want to clarify a few things if anyone is willing to help an old fella out. Note as well I'm in Canada although I believe the P/Ns should be similar to what you have in the US.
My specs:
- I believe the radio is what you call the RA1. It's the smaller 5.0" screen. It has bluetooth, I have hands free at the steering wheel but that's about it. No volume controls for the radio at the wheel.
- I have the 7 speed manual temp control in the bezel and it's single zone. I do not have ATC.
- I have the dual USB hub with aux jack in a center bench console. I think you call it the 'Premium USB hub'. Similar to this https://i.imgur.com/Zgu4bUn.jpg
What I have so far:
- Radio - P/N: 68340153AJ - I ordered it used, manufacture date is 2019, it's out of a 2019 Ram Classic as well so I'm pretty sure this is correct.
- HVAC Module - P/N: 68366552AA - I ordered this from Mopar brand new, from some of what I read in the forums with potential issues, I didn't want to attempt a used one.
What I think I need:
- Bezel - P/N: 1UJ96DX9AK - I'm planning to go with this one as it's single zone, no ATC which matches my current setup. I'm still shopping this part as it's pricy to purchase new here in Canada, almost the same price as what I paid for the radio. From what I've read, this P/N should be correct.
Where I'm confused:
- Media Hub - P/N: 68328704AD - Do I need to upgrade what is currently in the console to this part? Based on this post - https://www.ramforum.com/threads/di...e-hvac-conversion.135601/page-17#post-2314277 - my assumption is that I can use what is currently there as it should be compatible with Apple car play. I assume as well that if I do not need an upgrade I don't need to change out the Media Hub wiring harness?
- There's quite a bit of info on wiring harnesses here - https://www.ramforum.com/threads/m²-mods-intro-project-list.98332/#post1458159
and I've read about an HVAC conversion harness and cabin temp sensor. My questions,
- if I don't care to use ATC with the radio do I need this harness and cabin temp sensor?
- Is the HVAC conversion harness different than the extension harness discussed here? - https://www.ramforum.com/posts/1937436/
Last, is there anything else I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, can't wait to kick the 5.0 to the curb.
