UCONNECT UPDATE PROBLEM, RECIEVED AN OVER THE AIR UPDATE ON FEB 21ST, GOT A BLACK SCREEN WITH ERROR CODE 20, WENT TO DEALER, CHARGED ME $145 TO TELL ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE UPDATE. THEY WERE WILLING TO FIX IT FOR $400, BUT THAT MAY NOT WORK AND THEY MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT. UCONNECT HAS NOT HELPED, I HAVE CALLED EVERYDAY

If there is a problem with that software update there is probably discussion on this, or the Gen 5 audio forum. I suggest a search with key words while you wait for other responses here. Good luck.

Its not recoverable from my experience. I spent a week trying to fix one like that. What year is your truck? @RamCares might be able to open a case for you.

In my opinion the OTAs should stop. Especially if they can brick things that the owner has to fix out of pocket.

@RamCares thank you for any help or advice you can give. Today I talked to Uconnect and they stated they contacted the dealer, but the dealer stated they have not received any phone calls or emails from Uconnect.

This is borderline criminal if OP doesn't get some satisfaction from Ram. The updates are mandatory as far as a I know. At least I've never been able to avoid one. They just pop up without warning. Can you imagine any other product in the world that you buy, take home, use and then something automatically comes over the airwaves and renders it useless?

Thank you @mtofell, but nothing has happened yet. Tomorrow is a full day for me, but on Wednesday March 3rd, 10th day of this fiasco, if I do not hear anything, I will go down to the dealer and talk to them again. I have heard from two other dealerships service managers from out of state that said this should not be an issue. But it is!

Our 2019 Ram 2500 went out the same day as yours on February 21, 2021. I have drove the truck with a black screen and no A/C since that day. After researching the internet I read to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. We did that, and turned the truck on and radio screen still black, that was yesterday. Today I went out to go somewhere and the radio was back on but the truck would not start and message "Service Electronic Throttle Control" message on the dash. I had my husband disconnect both batteries again for 5 minutes. We started the truck right up and no error messages. The truck ran fine to the store, the radio and A/C all working.

Not sure why disconnecting the battery is working I assume it is doing a hard reset. Hope this helps anyone out.

I agree, criminal.

This sounds class action suit worthy.

I have never been a "sue" guy but this would get my blood boiling.

So I called UConnect everyday, twice a day and @RamCares on this forum was notified, thanks to others. UConnect has contacted the dealership and authorized a radio replacement. It will take 10 day for the radio to arrive, but at least it will be resolved. I have to put the truck on the battery charger every night, since the instrument gauge lights stay on 100% of the time and I am not driving it very much until this is over. Other little things started going wrong also, hopefully all that will be fixed when the new radio is installed.

The wonky update they pushed. Need to do better with internal testing before releasing into the wild.

I have a 2018 ram 2500 diesel. I did an update last week and now the truck won’t start and it’s showing error code 20. I have brought it to the dealer and they said they would replace it for 1200 dollars. It would take a month since it’s back ordered. It is a lease too. Need some help fixing this problem. Thanks

Agreed. These forced over the air updates fail more often than Ram / Stellantis would care to admit. I've seen @RamCares or SXM customer service get these radios covered before, even outside of warranty.

The error codes may be the same as the 5th Gen Panasonic radios. Here's a 19 TSB #S2008000073 I came across recently that may assist. Unfortunately it doesn't list that specific code.
